Rosa is quite correct…doing nothing is stupid, and worse, cowardly. That said, Luann is also correct…he withdraws because he likes her.

Yeah, I got nothing. I’ve had very few girlfriends, so I’m not one to talk, but at least I get the hint to cuddle when it comes.

Ehhhhhh. You could make that argument. But it’s a tough sell. To make that argument seem convincing, you’d have to imagine what it would be like with the genders reversed. If it were a girl in Gunther’s place ‘no means no’ is the phrase of the day. But with a ‘man’ and I use the term VERY loosely, in Gunther’s case…it’s more natural to think he does like her and hasn’t the balls to respond properly.

Interesting how Luann understands Gunther, but she apparently still doesn’t understand Quill. Maybe she only understands men she’s not emotionally invested in?

She knew Gunther for the last 25 years…
I don’t know about his age group, but this was the typical situation with mine. NWF, vol 1, pages 300-301:
“It could get ugly when a non-”bad boy" would try to ask a woman out. Part of the natural risk of asking someone out is being turned down and we men are indeed used to being rejected, but in many cases it “wasn’t enough” for this group to just turn a man down when he asked a woman out— many women had to “make sure” that he was trashed, humiliated. Because it was fun for them to do so, or to prove to their circle of friends that they had no interest in an “ordinary” guy. Or both. Or because she was nasty and trained to be egocentric. (Esteem self, right?) ‘Ewwww, what is this guy doing, tainting me by trying to ask me out,’ was frequently the attitude and it made men who saw it roll their eyes at the displays of ego and sheer nastiness. Some women were so vile as to return cards or flowers sent by guys because a guy who was not a “bad boy” being interested in them would affect their “social standing.” Nor are we necessarily talking about the “beauty queens” where one might possibly expect such antisocial behavior, either. Such attitudes were independent of “looks” or any other factor.
Then if that kind of thing wasn’t enough, in the last year, I’ve actually heard the complaint by women of this age group that ordinary guys are “to blame” for the women’s chasing of the 10% or 20%, because the ordinary guys didn’t “make themselves attractive enough” to the women. "

Luann just wants to see how he does in the test setup, then, if she deems him worthy, she’ll steal him and jump his frame.

I know, I feel the comment flaggers on my heels, I mean, treads…

Wow. I thought everybody would understand Gunther’s position. He is simply too insecure to put himself “out there”. (Not to mention that he’s inexperienced, and isn’t sure what to do.) He is in total awe of her.
It doesn’t matter how well you understand the physics and know how safe it is to skydive. The first time you get to the door of the plane, you would have a very hard time throwing yourself out. (That’s why first-timers usually go tandem. No chance to hesitate.) No matter how much you want to.

Rosa feels rejected and getting resentful. She probably feels she done all she could to show she likes him. To protect her own ego, she could easily write him off as gay and start dating another guy. Rea

Hi, I had to sign in to comment this.
Luann understands friendship, but she does not (yet?) understand love. Gunther is her friend: dear, comfortable and safe, but just a friend.
Quill, on the other hand, is her first real touch of love and mutual interest, not some merely one-sided teenage infatuation.
Gunther, the poor boy, is so insecure that he doesn’t feel himself worthy enough to hold Rosa’s hand. He’s not gay, he’s just afraid. (Like all/most men are with women, especially those you are attracted to. You just don’t admit it.)
Don’t you remember what it was like back then in high school?
(I apologise spelling/grammatic errors, english is not my native language.)

Why is everyone in such a hurry about Gunther?
He is a decent caring person who does good works and obviously follows a moral code.
We should be applauding his determination to avoid temptation not urging him towards it.

Rosa is running out of patience; Gunther needs still more time. Who will reach the breaking point first?
