    An interesting observation from Anna Jarvis, recognized as the U.S. organizer of “Mother’s Day” (spelled as she recommended), who later died in poverty trying to campaign against it’s commercialization:
    “A printed card means nothing except that you are too lazy to write to the woman who has done more for you than anyone in the world. And candy! You take a box to Mother—and then eat most of it yourself. A pretty sentiment.”

    Eighth graders don’t know from one minute to the next whether they are adults or children. It makes them hard to teach, and it makes it hard for them to learn.
