Seriously. The signals were pretty clear out of Egypt even as we made excuses for the Morsi government (see Ann Patterson’s weak comments regarding the Muslim Brotherhood’s dismantling of the Egyptian Constitution, a tacit acceptance). So now the US is in the middle of being hated by the Muslim Brotherhood, the Egyptian rank and file, the Coptic Christians and now Egyptian military is talking to Russia. And Saudi Arabia is making up for the aid we are threatening to cut off. Obama policy in the Middle East is just plain stupid, led by inept bureaucrats.

I think the cartoon is just making fun of the White House’s abbility to send a consistent message. Can you please help me understand how it is a statement by the cartoonist that America’s voice should be heeded by all, far and wide?

My favorite story that I read today came from Ecuador.
The President of Ecuador has been criticized by newspapers for wanting to drill for oil on an Amazon preserve.
So he wants to ban print newspapers to save trees.
Electronic news would be OK, though.

Ah. That makes sense. My apologies for reading something into your answer you did not intend. Thanks.

Canuck you really must be from Canada, given that they have no foriegn policy and of course little influence in the world so for them it is incredibly hard to understand the world. Like a cork they kind of just float with the tide. Did the US have influence? Well it wasn’t Canada that brought Begin and Sadat together now was it? It was US influence, it was also US influence that ousted the USSR out of most of the Middle East, when Mubarak retired for the Arab spring, it was US influence in the Middle East that allowed for his retirement. And the list goes on…. Indeed many factors relate, but one of the big ones used to be "what would the US reaction be. I find it amazing how Obama was able to, in a few short years squander that influence with his “leading from behind” making the US almost and impotent and unimportant as say Canada in terms of influence. Maybe reading the funnies is about the best we can expect from some of you.
