Adjust to what? Bullying? I guess you’ve never been on the receiving end of that.
    .
I have…. and it wasn’t fun. I think this ’toon is a good one.

Give in to a bully? Sorry, I’m an American. We don’t take well to bullies.

Bullies tend to stop when they are made to deal with resistance. Every time.

But today we teach “telling an adult” rather than “standing your ground”. There is nothing an adult can do to stop a bully from being one. By law if the child is confronted and disciplined in any way other than a “suspension” of privileges and “re-education” efforts the adult can be sued.

But if that bully knows beyond a doubt that pushing you results in a smack in the face they stop.

Yeah, I’m a neanderthal. But no one bullies me or mine.

It is a little more complex than that, Bruce, though I confronted a bully myself back in high school nonviolently and got him to back off. (I threatened to write a DETAILED letter to the principal (a nun), the assistant principal (a formidable nun), and his mother.

If you punch a bully in the nose, maybe he’ll back down, maybe he won’t. Maybe he’ll punch you back. Possibly much harder (bullies rarely pick on anyone their own size; that’s what makes them bullies), possibly every day thereafter. What, you’ve never seen that happen? EVERY bully is a coward?

Maybe the only way to make your threat credible is to bring friends to back you up. Then maybe he gets HIS friends. And soon everybody is punching everybody else in the nose, and those who can’t (or won’t) fight are at the mercy of those who will and can. Until maybe (just maybe) someone who’s no good with his fists brings a gun to school. That’s “the great equalizer,” right?

Tell an adult. Maybe everything can end with NOBODY being punched in the nose.

    Spoken like a true peacemaker.

Yes, sometimes they hit back. I want you to watch a little MMA sometime. Think about it.

Sure, I try to talk about it. I try to reason once or twice but if they person lays hands on me all bets are off. And yes I’ve toted a few whippings in my time. But the next day we did it all again. Every time I see you we will have a problem. You’ll get tired of it soon enough. And no I never strike first.

But remember, war is not always about the battles but IS always about information, planning and preparation.

You probably think I should be confined in some way by now. Hahahahahahaha

You may push one bully away, yes, but it is a mob rule thing.
“Let’s us get that nerd what plays chess.”
    So get bullied? Get help!

Dude, mob rule? A “mob” needs a leader, a “catalyst” don’cha know. That leader chooses the target and makes the initial attack…the others follow.

Don’t you know how to focus that energy on the “leader” and turn the confrontation into a proving ground for his “right to lead”?

    “Information, planning and preparation”

If you fail to plan you plan to fail.

    Just a cliche’ but true.

“You probably think I should be confined in some way by now.”

Not at all. Everything you’ve said is reasonable (unless some tone was meant to be conveyed that I’ve missed).

It’s just that I mistrust arguments along the lines of “The best defense to a bad kid who can fight is a good kid who can fight.” I don’t see how that can fail to increase the number of fights rather than reduce it. And, since the virtue of being in the right provides no advantage once the first punch is thrown (which is why “Trial by Combat” in no longer an option offered by our Justice System), there’s always the possibility that the “last man standing” will still be the bad guy.

A well-delivered punch in the nose may often END an argument, but it cannot RESOLVE it (unless, of course, the argument is simply “Which of us would win in a fight?”, which is why we have MMA…)

    Good thoughts my brother.

You would think that your assessment would be correct. It was not in my experience, but that’s just me.

For the most part, our different factions as I grew up managed to live in peace. But then no one “played” and when the hat dropped it was Katy bar the door ….. lol …. dated huh.

When one gets up at 4AM to start work before school and leaves school heading to the “job” if you were lucky with more “chores” to be done after that…… don’t play with me, I don’t have the time of patience for it.

So disagreements were solved quickly and finally. Most of the time without violence. Funny, there were plenty of weapons around – some of them guns – but not that many people shot in my neck of the woods. Ammunition was hard to come by and you used it to put food on the table. But I’ve thumped a few skulls in my time.
