Every dirty trick in the book. If the Floridians keep electing them they will degenerate into Texans.

HEY! Native Floridian here – and no, I did not vote for Scott! Tell that to the majority of the Seniors who live here; they’re the ones that keep voting the Republicans into office!
    .
(Long rant coming. You’ve been warned!)
    .
Even so, we’re nothing like Texas. What can you get from Texas? Oil. Florida has more going for us than that.
→ Tourism: our #1 industry. That includes the Theme parks and sports arenas that everyone around the Nation knows about. Then there’s the lesser-known tourist spots, such as Kennedy Space Center or Coral Castle….
—> Agriculture: Yes, we have it here, from down in Homestead to the Panhandle. There’s even a Farmer’s market not far from me where I can get fresh veggies – if I wanted to. (I’m more carnivorous than herbivorous.)
→ Construction: Even if not as many new homes are going up, there’s still construction going on, whether it’s road improvements or remodeling.
—> Environment: a very charged word around here, since a lot of Florida has a sub-tropical weather pattern and a unique ecological system (or two). You’ve got Mangrove systems all along the East Coast (from Key West up to here on the Space Coast, and maybe beyond that), two Wetland systems, and many folks trying to get “native plants” (the ones that were here before the swamp was drained) put back into the landscapes. Oh, and I almost forgot our own underwater Natural Resource: the Reefs. I’m glad that Bush Sr. foresaw a need to protect them when he created the Key Largo National Marine Sanctuary, as the only other barrier reef that’s protected (I think) is the one Down Under.
    .
And while Texas may have it’s own quirks, please don’t compare us to them. We may also be part of “The South”, but we’re also a mixed bunch of folks as well. Even if Morin (once again) got the political arena nicely drawn.

It is like what the proverbial mother said “you keep doing that, it will stick like that for the rest of your life”….easy don’t vote for them. Elephants are not indigenous to the climate anyway. Always thought the indigo snakes were cool (any Left ?) and I remember Daytona before NASCAR.

Thanks for the sanity check. As a NYer, I get sneers and grimaces all the time from people who wonder how anyone could ever live here. They are immediately dismissed by me as naive and insular. Oddly, one of the most common questions people ask is how much I loved Rudy Giuliani.

New York City was a great disappointment. I was promised shootings. I was told (by a New Yorker) to never go into a park after dark because they were full of drug dealers who would sell me every conceivable illegal drug, and cheap hookers.

I spent a year there, and never saw a single shooting. I went to the park around 11 pm every night and never found any of those drug dealers or cheap hookers (or even expensive hookers).

All I found in the parks was the occasional late-night basketball game.

Those New Yorkers are always selling us poor people misleading sub-prime mortgages and misleading promises in their parks.

“How many times have you told this same story?”
By far not as many times as you, with your inane palaver.

RUFF: As a native New Yorker (now living in sunny Florida), I can tell you the parks to avoid (or not avoid) if you’re looking for drugs and hookers.I worked in neighborhoods where when gunshots rang out, the locals didn’t even flinch, they were so used to it. Of course crime in general is way down since Rudy Giuliani. That’s why CHILLBILLY doesn’t like him. He was competent. Libs hate that.

Rudy Giuliani was a wishy-washy republican and a cross dresser. He was a cry baby when they didn’t let run for a third term. Bloomberg o the other hand was a shoe in for a third term – as an independent. Not really republicans and very competent…hmmm.

Enjoyed Florida immensely. Cousins took me to Silver Springs and I snorkled with beautiful fish then saw a manatee on the way home. The estuary north and west of the the space grounds was also amazing. Watching a 12’ gator submerge without hardly a ripple with no fences between him and us was…humbling. You’re a good voice for your state and many us do care.
    Respectfully,
    C.
