Things have changes a lot in Chicago politics since Daley the First died. The Shakman Decree prevented firing city workers for political reasons and made it no longer possible to coerce city employees to do machine political work(especially during working hours!) I went door to door for some of the Daley machine opponents, and it was very real at that time. It is not any more. There is a Democratic organization in Chicago now, but it is NOT a “machine” anymore, not anymore than any political organization anywhere else. The graft in Chicago politics is mostly corporate lobbyists and law firms getting cozy with aldermen and state legislators, same as everywhere else. Your epithets are forty years out of date, Howie. And the “thugs” you often refer to are wearing three piece suits. Look on the bright side, Howie. Forty years out of date is an improvement on your usual stupid, downright ignorant, and malicious.
