Issa has been crawling out and retreating back into his hole way too often in the last two years, spreading venom, then running to hide. If he was stupid, like “Duke” Cunningham, his former “neighbor” from California, his performance might be more excusable. Sorry, but he’s bordered on treason for a long time, and now Darrel has crossed it several times, and now endangers our people working abroad. He shouldn’t be leading committees, but instead be censured and removed.

I would like to see as much effort made to get the embassy/consulate security bill through congress and to the president’s desk as I have seen spent on trying to find a way to use this to political advantage.
Please guys, pass the bill, without add ons or riders, then go back to your blame games. I’m sure if the Republicans can’t find something to investigate, the Democrats can. The People’s work is waiting and your too many of your constituents need the help your political donors don’t.
In the name of Ambassador Stevens, pass the bill.

C.

C Downs: Amen. And while we are at it, let’s return the job to the Marines instead of overpriced corporate mercenaries.

Absolutely the path to privatization has proven itself to be nothing more than another cash grab for the no bid friends of politicians like Issa, cheney and their friends
The Iraq, Afghanistan conflicts using privatized support has cost by one report 2/3 more. We spent 3 billion a day with privatized support and saw repeated atrocities by these for want of a better word thugs, our own service people killed by poor construction process.
We are now entering another major shift in how we wage war the use of unmanned drones has opened up a new range of weapons with less risk and costs.
Now we also have to get the congressional profiteers who sold us into this hell hole for the sake of their “profits”!

Didn’t there used to be a law preventing Americans from hiring out as "mercenaries? I guess security specialist is different from mercenary in that mercenaries are independent contractors and security companies are corporate?
In this world of bomb vests and car/truck/motorcyle bombs, ALL of our buildings need to be protected even in those countries where we are still appreciated.

Wasn’t Issa the guy who said he wanted to start a new hearing every week? Now, please don’t laugh, but I sometimes go back on C-SPAN to old hearings and listen to them (partly to get perspective, partly to improve my English).
-
I can’t shake the feeling that at least half the hearings I’ve been watching (even back in the 70’s) were not meant to find facts or inform the public, but to put one over “the other guys”. You can basically tell who’s in control of the House and Senate by just looking at the subjects of the hearings! Only if something really tragic (and technical…) has happened will both sides put away the cudgels and work to find out what went wrong and how to fix it.
-
But there are always show-people sitting there who go for the cheap shot against the witness or the other side. Like in the “Big Three” hearings when that one Dem asked the CEO’s whether they would be willing to sell their business jets right now and go back to Detroit on a commercial flight. He got his answer (“no” of course), but who would have expected anything else? It’s just a waste of time, and what Issa is doing here might be more of the same.

Is German your language, I recall you stating you were there, but your writing is so much better than that of my Mississippi relatives, and I wish that was a joke, I thought you were either US military or ex military living there.
Very few hearings occur without members using witnesses as sounding boards to attack the position of the opposing party. As a nod to Howgozit, Joe Biden was a master of using hearings to lecture Republican legislators and executives alike….but I’d still love to have a beer with him.
International interest in how the most powerful single nation on the planet is run is understandable. I imagine we scare the other six contients more than we do ourselves.
As a note simply to Morty, i’m currently taking spanish as it is the fastest growing second language in the US. I still practice German when I can, but its fading. I guess I’ll need to learn Chinese if our elected officials don’t turn this country around. If you can ever find a neutral place to have a conversation, would love to help you with the english while you help me mit mein Deutsch.
Gross Gott und haben Sie eine guten tag.

I have to wonder how, or if, Issa actually gets around to representing his district with all the investigations of Obama. He’s another excellent example of why we have to take the House back from the Republicans. It’s a good thing to have a House Oversight Committee to keep an eye on the government; however, when the committee consistently “investigates” ONE PERSON, continually on everything that one person does, I think we should find his perspective more than a little suspect. He even claimed, before taking over that committee that he would investigate Bush too, but when he found out that Solyndra and “Fast and Furious” were ineffectively started and run under the Bush banner, he suddenly lost interest and moved on to other things. And then right wingers have the temerity to blame the President for not being willing to “reach across the aisle”. There’s no end to the treason of this extreme right wing. It’s VERY important that we get control of the House to give the President a chance to effect some real change over the next 4 years. Vote Obama!

And the Republicans voted en masse to reduce funding for foreign embassies by $300 Billion dollars! There’s nothing quite as despicable as a person that does something and then turns around and accuses someone else of doing it! If we want to get this stuff straight we have to have a huge Republicanectomy in this election and give President Obama a chance to bring real change.

I think we wouldn’t make a lot of friends on this board if we were to use German (or Spanish, or Chinese). It’s easy for me to improve (or maintain) my English since the whole net
is basically English (and rightly so, ARPA…). The rest comes
from Maddow, Leno, Stewart and Colbert. And I’m trying to sound educated, simply because it’s not my mother-tongue. Your relatives know that you will understand them no matter what, they don’t have to prove themselves. Oh, and I use a
spell-checker, that’s cheating, but necessary, believe me :-)
