    No, they stole our technology. A certain mega retailer insisted on minimal prices so they use slave labor working 37 hour shifts to manufacture their stuff using our technology.

    Most countries that have national filters on the Internet buy those filters from the US.

    China developed its own filter, but probably bought the US filter and reverse-engineered it.

    So @Grainbelt, yes, we probably sold them the technology, and @Clark Kent, they probably stole unlimited use and modification rights after a US company sold them pay-per-year with no authority to modify the code.

    It seems to me that this problem is not unique to China; the U.S. would just LOVE to control internet access and cut down on political activism.

    Tigger, may I ask you who first borrowed money from China in behalf of the U.S. ?

    And I thought these efforts in congress were the result of the MPAA, RIAA and other copyright holders trying to have the government step in and protect their business interests.

    Just for the record, the Great Wall didn’t do a particularly good job at keeping the Mongols or the Manchus out, did it?

    @Dr Who

    I can think of few places that I’d less rather live in than China. Their political system is repressive and intrusive, their environment is horrible, their working conditions are abysmal, and their income distribution is completely unfair. In other words, the conservative Republicans’ nightmareland.

    I would have thought that it was the Republican Ideal! You know, a lot of little, poor people making stuff, so the top 1% can get even richer…
    A Repressive Political system, like Sen. Frothy Sanctimonious wanting to regulate ALL forms of birth control…
    The dismantling of the EPA, so their corporate Masters can not have to worry about all those pesky regulations, and they can improve their profit margins…
    Yup, sounds like a Republican Wonderland to me!

    Conservatives in the U.K. are apparently also stepping up “data gathering”, just like our “Patriot Act” authorized.

    Clark Kent: A certain megaretailer? Last I heard, Apple, MS, Dell, “and others” were using that same sweatshop.
