Life has never made sense. Generally, though, people usually just sleep through the crazy parts.

The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense.

I refer you to Lewis Carroll.

    For instance:

    Jabberwocky

    by Lewis Carroll

’Twaus brillig, and the slithy toves

    Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;

    All mimsy were the borogoves,

    And the mome raths outgrabe.

“Beware the Jabberwock, my son The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!”

He took his vorpal sword in hand; Long time the manxome foe he sought—So rested he by the Tumtum tree, And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood, The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame, Came whiffling through the tulgey wood, And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through The vorpal blade went snicker-snack! He left it dead, and with its head He went galumphing back.

“And hast thou slain the Jabberwock? Come to my arms, my beamish boy! O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!” He chortled in his joy.

’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe; All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe.

Go You Dittos, Go (Drive Away)

To the tune of Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)

Let them sail, do not fail, let the ball of dittos go
Let them reach, they can teach drones to doubt all that they see
Let them fly, let them try, let them hide the parts we show
Let them reach, and impeach and confuse drones’ memory

    (Bridge)
Drive Away, Drive Away, Drive Away
Drive Away, Drive Away, Drive Away
Drive Away, Drive Away, Drive Away
Drive Away, Drive Away, Drive Away

From Endtown they came down to the depths of Albion
They’re with me, don’t you see, they’re protective company
And they tried, but my pride and my temper made them gone
Glad to see there can be a new chance to get us free

    (Bridge)

Whip it up, fake it up, give us a new look ohh…
Whip it up, fake it up, give us a new look ohh…
Whip it up, fake it up, give us a new look ohh…
Whip it up, fake it up, give us a new look ohh…

Drive Away, Drive Away, Drive Away
Drive Away, Drive Away, Drive Away
Drive Away, Drive Away, Drive Away
Drive Away, Drive Away, Drive Away

From high space to the wastes we have fought Topsiders too
From the deep monster sands to the lands of frozen doom
Hide us now, ditto friends, so we never can be seen
Hide us now, make amends, just as if we’d never been

We can hide, not be spied, now just watch the dittos go
We can hide, we can hide
Drive away, drive away, drive away
We can drive, stick with Clive, don’t need people at the wheel
Duck this, and alone, we’ll escape our destiny
We can hide, we can hide
Drive away, drive away, drive away

From Endtown they came down to the depths of Albion
We can hide, we can hide
Drive away, drive away, drive away

Let them reach, they can teach drones to doubt all that they see
We can hide, we can hide
Drive away, drive away, drive away

Let them fly, let them try, let them hide the parts we show
We can hide, we can hide
Drive away, drive away, drive away

Let them reach, and impeach and confuse drones’ memory
We can hide, we can hide
Drive away, drive away, drive away

Drive away, drive away, drive away
Drive away, drive away, drive away
Drive away, drive away, drive away
Drive away, drive away, drive away
    Ahhha….Ahhha….Ahhha…Ahhha….

And of course, both of Carroll’s Alice books made perfect sense. Sorry about the line breaks in The Jabberwocky, it can better be found here:

    Jabberwocky etc. .

Now, I will meet any challenge to play croquet with hedgehogs and flamingos, without borrowing the caterpillar’s hookah. We’ll send our little disappearing moggie to, ahem, borrow, the Lagomorph’s timepiece.

Yeah, life was simpler when shooting someone didn’t result in a pile of dust. And that was before people turning into mutant animal people and the giant kaiju monsters in the desert the entire world.

Good fiction has to make a certain amount of sense for a story to hold together. That doesn’t mean that every element of a story has to conform to “normal” expectations but that the elements of the story have to work together in some ways. Otherwise few readers would make it through the story.

Another thing about Lewis Carroll is that he was a famous mathematician and logician. He spent all day doing the rigors of logic and math. This was in a way his release to illogical and silliness.
The human mind many times seek out the funny and illogical things just to keep the interest up.
We all need a little fun sometimes and time to get out of our mold and stretch a bit.

    JusSayin,
Lewis Carroll’s (aka Charles Dodgson) bio makes wonderful reading.
I always liked the story about his dealing with stammering. I too suffer from that problem many times my mind moves so fast the mouth cannot keep up. I learned to deal with it by stopping till my thoughts get linked up to mouth. Many times it looks like I have froze up in mid sentence but then start right back up. It was worse as a young child but stories my speech therapist told me about how Carroll got over and dealt with the problem was an inspiration to me. The therapist would have me read the Jabberwocky poem out loud over and over to get the wording down. When I would come to the part where I would stammer I learned to stop at the point in the poem so it would not look so obvious.

Holly would make a great Dormouse.
She is always “falling asleep” during some scenes with Wally.
Her best dormouse was on the Airship.
“TO CHEEESEE” with her mouth stuffed.
