It's the End of Civilization as we know it. A mutagenic plague followed by a global war fought with disintegration weaponry has left much of the Earth a desert of fine powder and what remains of humanity fragmented into humans, animal-like mutants and bloodthirsty monstrosities with lots of teeth. The surface, still teeming with the mutagenic virus, has become the domain of the dreaded Topsiders; well-organized, technologically advanced, and heavily armed un-mutated humans sworn to exterminate mutations of any kind in order to clear the way for the eventual resurgence of a new, genetically clean humanity. Faced with annihilation, mutants and "impure" humans have retreated into the depths of the planet to form communities and hope to win, or at least survive, what may prove to be mankind's final war. Endtown is the continuing story of one of those communities.

That’s a statue.

Be careful where you point that. Wally is probably a pretty good ratter when he’s mad.

Go to November 8th strip. It’s on the sill in Linda’s room.

They called in “Weeping Buddha” then. It’s
Not official artwork now
It was the art of prior tenants
But that was Zen and this is Dao
These rats of their Security
Are too invested in their work
They’re past “efficient,” and to me
Each acts like “quintessential jerk”

Yep, there it is…right next to the can the Tootsie Rolls were in.

It is identified as the Weeping Budda??? Well, looks like a very fat baby, hairless, with a diaper, in a tantrum.
I am really confused. How could this being in Linda"s room unless…..maybe it is evidence being planted in her room to squeeze her a little. These rats have proven that they will do just about anything for the “law as they see it.” Hummmm.
And we know that Rabbit is sulking in the background.
Where is Flask when we need her? Or AM>

Flask and AM have their own chores elsewhen. As for the Weeping Buddha, it’s an actual statue, much copied: It allows beginning woodcarvers to master the shapes of the body before moving on to the face. (A separate legend says that the statue is of a warrior who has finally killed his most fearsome opponent… only to discover he has killed his long-lost son.)

Click on the IT IS INDEED up in Three Steps comment. It links to the date in question. You will see it in the room Linda takes over. The can the Tootsie Rolls were in is next to the statue. I was unaware that there really was a statue like this though. I love learning new things when I read the comics. Especially cultural things. And yeah, Buddha statues often look like fat babies.
