It's the End of Civilization as we know it. A mutagenic plague followed by a global war fought with disintegration weaponry has left much of the Earth a desert of fine powder and what remains of humanity fragmented into humans, animal-like mutants and bloodthirsty monstrosities with lots of teeth. The surface, still teeming with the mutagenic virus, has become the domain of the dreaded Topsiders; well-organized, technologically advanced, and heavily armed un-mutated humans sworn to exterminate mutations of any kind in order to clear the way for the eventual resurgence of a new, genetically clean humanity. Faced with annihilation, mutants and "impure" humans have retreated into the depths of the planet to form communities and hope to win, or at least survive, what may prove to be mankind's final war. Endtown is the continuing story of one of those communities.

But, what exactly is he, and what’s he standing on? I’d like to know, even if it does mean life is duller.

Okay, okay. Aaron’s been listening to us all the time. He has given us – literally – a cliff-hanger!

So… some kind of anti-gravity field supporting the ship? that would explain how it can float.
Ha ha – galleon on the outside, and junk on the inside!

I think I got a new feeling about this entire story. Before it was “oh no they are doomed” but now my mind says simply “oh no they are stuck on a floating ship that nobody can get out from, not even jumping, oh well here we go for a Star Trek Lost in Space episode”.

Like Wally says in panel 2 Just ONCE, we’d like to be clued in to what’s going on around here! And tomorrow is Friday. Somehow I get the feeling all will NOT be explained. I already can’t wait until Monday!

The End of It Making Sense
(To this tune)
Remember when the days were clear
And under artificial sky
Didn’t know we’d end up here
Just minutes ago we thought we’d die
When “happily ever after” stops
We’re in a movie set with insane props
Can someone tell me when this stops?
Why that captain tried to fly?
But I know a place where we could be
If we can ever get down
What happens to that society
If the satellite spots Endtown?
We could spend our time in some new place
Or wait for destruction from outer space
This has all gone crazy since
We saw the end
It was the end of things making sense
Oh, wonderful, we’re in the skies
Caught by some sort of new machine
And even the arrows are alive
Instructing us — what does it mean?
That stranger standing at the rail
Went over the side without a wail
But where’d he go? How could we fail
To see this falling guy?
But I know a place where we could be
I’m too old for this ship
I think we’re better off, you and me
If we could give it the slip
Just keep your head and we’ll get down
And we’ll be there back on the ground soon
I’ve had enough of this suspense
This was the end
This is the end of things making sense
Who knows how long we’ll be here
How we got here’s still not clear
But somewhere back down in the dust
The future’s there for the two of us
We need to remember Flask
She’s dangerous, no need to ask
And Linda we must figure out
Or tell that gal goodbye
Just let me get one foot down there
Hey, there’s the guy — he’s in the air, now?
I can’t be surprised more since
This is the end
This is the end of things making sense
