Mutagen rules! Is this one reason why Topsiders turn into monsters when their suit rips? What was Cooper’s day job before the End so that he knows all this stuff? Does this mean that Flask was unconscious when she mutated? Stay-tuned for future revelations – same Endtown time, same Endtown place!

So mutating itself is a dread
We saw many turn monster instead
    Back in earlier day
(Is it true, by the way
That calm Cooper still loses his head?)

Oh wow. This is an interesting insight into the rules of the mutant plague! Makes me wonder what time of day it was when the outbreak began – I’m assuming it must be night, since it’s most likely people would be asleep. I wonder what determines the type of animal (or monster) they become? Is it the DNA of the human? Is it random?
I had thought that it was entirely random or DNA related. Seeing that there is more of a rule to it makes me even more excited and curious to find out everything about it! It’s easy to see how much time you had spent developing this world, plot, rules, characterization and everything else, Aaron! Fantastic!

It does seem Cooper’s given this some thought
And rules are thus revealed from what he’s seen
    Unconscious, “standard anthro.” Waking, not
But drugs put Cooper weirdly in-between

    I gather than he’s well-adjusted now
His thoughts and actions anything but cruel
But right when he mutated, I’d allow,
He had a tank of high-test nightmare fuel

My compliments on the poetry, Level_Head….. Cooper needs to put a little more Brooklyn in Curly’s plaint… “I’m a victim of soicumstance!” woowoowoowoowoowoowoo……. (Bronkster used the Nyuks)

Well, this provides a good explanation of what sort of children anthro mutants would have – human but already mutated before birth.
I wonder what the reason for those who end up immune to the mutagen and stay human… would this mean that a newborn could become mutated but in the same way that a human who becomes immune to the mutagen does?
I’m guessing that most people were asleep when affected by the mutagen. Apparently some were in a state of semi-consciousness, either by drug or other reasons. I don’t think we’ve seen any reason or source of the mutagen, maybe we’ll learn more of it through cooper and his history.

Cooper’s insights explain what happened to Spark Plug’s wife. Unfortunately it doesn’t explain why some people in Spark Plug’s city became anthros and others monsters when Spark Plug tried to get home.
Aaron what time of day was the attack on Spark Plug’s city? I noticed that some people became anthros and others monsters. There seems to be some discrepancies with the rules of mutation.

And here I thought that Endtown was completely self-induced.

    @J-A Cox

It’s possible that the guy that was turning into a duck when he met Sparkplug had been sleep walking or taking a nap in his car. It’s also possible that Cooper isn’t exactly 100% dead-on with his analysis.

There is a panel in Spark Plug’s memory of that day that shows a dog anthro being chased by a monster after he has to kill his wife who ate their daughter.

Poor Cooper, he seems to think that “his kind” will die out.
Aaron, I’m sure that there’s MORE to this…and you will let us know more about it, in time. Great job, today! I loved all the expressions on their faces. You do a great job with conveying emotions.

Wow, Aaron! This is some really deep stuff. You have REALLY thought out your storyline. I am seriously impressed. I agree wholeheartedly with Noreen’s assessment of the details of expressions and emotions. Fantastic job!

It would seem that a person’s reaction to the mutation drives the nature of it. Interesting concept. “You become what’s in your mind.” That would certainly explain why those topsiders we’ve seen mutate have turned into horrible things on the outside; they first were horrible things on the inside!
So the anthros’ present shapes reflect what they were anyway, only now they get to live it out!

So it would appear that adrenaline and neurotransmitter levels/balance will alter the type of mutation one undergoes.
Conscious — Start to change, panic, Monster.
Asleep — Change, smooth transition, dream states/content determine outcome.
Developing infant — Psyche too undeveloped to interfere with any changes by the mutagen, smooth transition, outcome likely influenced by the parents’ forms.
Self-medicated — OOooohh!! Look at the pretty colors!! Bad trip, man! Or something to that effect.
