Uh oh…looks like Allie’s got some other bad habits besides smoking. I wonder if their alcohol is somehow derived from beans as well.

That’s an interesting question, Sapphireetc. Can you make a bean whiskey?

d42: Sure, as long as yeast can feed on bean starch. I bet they can, if it was just simplified a bit with an enzyme or two. Go ask Professor Mallard!

Say–You’ve thought of a whole new industry: Beany Booze!

Looks like an early episode of NYPD Blue.

No matter what it’s made from, I wish it never existed!

One of the best features of this strip is the natural mannerisms of the characters, and background details. Few other cartoonists would have had a character holding a newspaper and gesturing with it because that’s what people do. These people are acting, and not just reciting lines like other strips’ characters.

One other comic comes to mind where the background and “business” is just as an important a character as the protagonists: Watchmen. I think Endtown is on the same level of creativity and care, if not better.

You can make distilled ethanol out of nearly any organic material.

I hope she’s not a mean drunk with those choppers….
