Marty Links was the creator of the comic strip “Emmy Lou” which ran in newspapers all over the world for over 35 years. Marty Links was a pioneer-- a woman cartoonist at a time when the cartoon business was really a boy’s club. For over 40 years, Marty would whisk through the San Francisco Chronicle city room delivering a weekly batch of cartoons with the same gusto as Emmy Lou would.

Marty son-in-law! If you missed my post late yesterday the celebrity was Paul Newman. Night-Gaunt49…I agree with you. We’ll leave the celebrity name be…dead or alive!
Marty used many celebrity names in her panel/strip including
Peter Fonda, Anthony Quinn, Steve Mcqueen, Cary Grant, Sophia Loren and Paul Newman many times.
Thanx for all of your comments!

Nice to see most teachers grade to content, not smiles no matter how beautiful.

It’s really great to have the input from someone both familiar with Marty AND Emmy Lou. I had home delivery of the San Francisco Chronicle for forty years – 1965 to 2005, when it was actually a newspaper.
Sic transit gloria Chronicle.

Hi Night-Gaunt49…Actually, I thank you guys. As my mother always said: “live and learn from your mistakes and if you do it again you’ll get a spanking and… you’re never to old for one”. Let me tell you…at 50 yrs old I’m not taking any chances with my mother!!

Hi Jeepers Creepers. As a Chronicle guy you probably remember Herb Cain. Marty was a great friend of Mr Cain for years and he used to reference her in his column from time to time. The good ole days!

Hi annie1012, comicbuff24 and everyone. Yes…we’ll have Emmy Lou t-shirts(really cute btw) on a website hopefully up and running next week. We’ll keep you posted. You’ll be able to link off of GoComics.com to that site once ready. Also, the site will be interactive with caption contests etc. Should be fun.
Thanx for asking!

I’m 55 myself and I don’t think I got to see and read “Emmy Lou” when it originally ran. Live in Houston all my life. Glad to catch up now at 55.
