Marty Links was the creator of the comic strip “Emmy Lou” which ran in newspapers all over the world for over 35 years. Marty Links was a pioneer-- a woman cartoonist at a time when the cartoon business was really a boy’s club. For over 40 years, Marty would whisk through the San Francisco Chronicle city room delivering a weekly batch of cartoons with the same gusto as Emmy Lou would.

This reminds me of a comic strip from the 1960’s called ‘Ponytail’.

Emmyloufan: Have you ever met up with the staff of Filmation who did the animated Emmy Lou segments for Archie’s TV Funnies and Fabulous Funnies in the 1970’s – Lou Schiemer, Hal Sutherland, and Norm Prescott?

I’ve got it figured out now. I commented a few days ago that I thought this used to be a multi-panel strip. I checked with Toonopedia and found out that Emmy Lou evolved into Bobby Sox, which was a multi-panel strip featuring the same characters as Emmy Lou. That’s the one I remember from the 50’s and 60’s.

Hi Original_Baskingshark!
Her name is Taffy. She is Emmy Lou’s best friend. this is a great example why your comments are important. I’ll make sure that GoComics posts all of the Emmy Lou characters and their names. Thanx!

Hi Davidf42 and Dr Midnight! Yes…Bobby Sox came first(1945-1958) and then when Marty re-syndicated with United Features in 1958 the Emmy Lou name stuck. btw…Charles “Sparky” Schulz helped Marty get into United Features which is Universal Uclick/United Features now.
Thanx for checking!

Hi dheine1971! No… we haven’t checked with the staff at Filmation yet, but good point. She ran with the Archie’s back in the 70’s. I do have some Emmy Lou cartoon film that I’ll figure out how to share with you all. Plus, a live action version with a song by Frankie Valli.

@emmyloufan1
I had no idea about the live action. I just barely remember Archie’s TV funnies.

Another thing: Filmation is now part of Dreamworks Classic Media, and I know Lou Schiemer is still alive and retired.
