I dunno, I’m with Becca. I’ve been in negotiations just like that quite often. You think you’re in a rational discussion and suddenly everything explodes and extremely weird decisions are made. Only later do you find out that X couldn’t stand to work with Y, so got Z to refuse to allocate staff and resources to make Y’s project fail so that Y would get sacked – that sort of thing. Business is stranger than fiction…

I rather doubt any of us have been in business negotiations where one side called in an air strike.

    Remember the Maine?
Remember the assassination of Franz Ferdinand?
Remember the Polish “attack” on that German border radio station in 1939?
    Remember the Maddox?

Any belligerent just itching for a full-blown war is willing to use any minor fracas as an excuse for launching one. If such an “intolerable atrocity” isn’t provided by the “enemy”, it may be necessary to gin one up oneself.

Not gonna specifically say anything about 9/11 other than to note how convenient it was for certain warmongers then in authority in the US. However, certain regular posters may feel free now to once again just throw the word “Benghazi” in here as if that trisyllable is all the excuse anybody would ever need to go nuclear.

Reminds me of the Democrats when they don’t get their way, except they tend to go nuclear.

In America, every problem has a military solution. Now what is the military solution to Obamacare?

Astolat’s comments remind me of an episode of “Star Trek: TNG” in which Lt. Worf asks Cap’t. Picard if he can find somebody else to work with the Klingon ambassador. After Worf explains his reasons, Picard replies, “Those are personal feelings. What are the professional reasons?” Worf “sobers up” and drops his request.

It would seem we don’t have enough maturity and professionalism in business and gov’t. these days.

No, but I’ll bet a lot of us have been in negotiations where we wished we could have !

American Politcal Theory, or what currently passes for it. “Our goal is to make Obama fail”. Or however Mr, Mitch McConnell phrased it
