It’s a good thing that there’s not much going on in Washington right now, so Trudeau can take a break and rerun this arc.

I wonder if GBT is getting tired?

“The “Doonesbury” cartoonist has been on sabbatical this summer as he readies his Washington-based TV series, “Alpha House,” one of the inaugural projects for Amazon Studios. That has meant a season of “Doonesbury Flashbacks” — a.k.a. reruns — on the comics page, with the comic strip’s return originally slated for Labor Day.

Now, like a Groundhog Day alert, comes new word: “Doonesbury” fans will get 10 more weeks of darkness. Original strips are now scheduled to return on the week of Nov. 18. The weekly color strip returned on Sunday"

Actually, the shutdown gave comedians plenty of material. And now, back to work on something other than shooting one’s self in the foot. Hooray!

My opinion is that GBT owes nothing to anyone. I’m grateful to these 40 years of the strip and if he retired tomorrow I’d be sad and says thanks. I’ll be reading old strips the rest of my life and I still get a laff seeing a fat, bald Elvis hanging on Trumps yacht or Lacey Davenport being asked by the Palm Spring dowagers why the homeless don’t just go live at their summer homes or “Reagan’s Brain.” To my mind he’s an American treasure and his underlying theme of “we can do better” may be more true today than ever.

Thanks, StCleve72! “What oft was thought, but ne’er so well express’d . . .” (Alexander Pope).

A lot of comics have reruns. Peanuts and Calvin & Hobbes are both permanent reruns, Get Fuzzy is sporadic, and Doonesbury has always had relatively short breaks, now this long one. So what? The reruns are still better than a lot of what’s out there, and a lot better than what I could come up with myself.

And this is just the American Group. Have you seen the Norwegians?

Bravo, StCleve72, you’ve stated it well for all of us.

I can imagine he’d be getting tired of all the criticism about reruns.
Protip for all the complainers: If you feel you’re not getting any value out of this comic strip, then ask for your money back.

Please add my thanks to the list of appreciation of your post! You have offset the the innumerable ignorant cheap shots from the “cheep” seats!
