"Garry Trudeau is the premier American social and political satirist of his time." -Newsweek Doonesbury has managed to be articulate, abrasive, political, compassionate, misunderstood, misprinted, and outrageous - but one thing it's never been is complacent. Garry Trudeau's creation has chronicled American history and culture in a parallel universe. And through it all, Doonesbury has always been honest, entertaining, and thought-provoking.

Robert Griffin the Third is the starting quarterback for Washington Redskins but has had knee injuries due to his constant running of the football. He’s not a natural in the pocket passer.

@annieb1012
You can google RG3, but “bambi knees” just gets me deviantart.com, which was probably not the intent here.

“Liberated from the tyranny of NCAA rules”?
Isn’t that spelled NFL?

The NCAA is a bizarre mix of unpaid labor risking life and limb generating bazillions within institutions that ostensibly answer to the higher calling of educating our future. Among the big institutions of America, it’s always struck me as one of the most amoral.
(Before you talk about the great education the athletes get while their coaches pull down 7 and 8 figure salaries [while libraries crumble and tuitions skyrocket] please check the graduation rates of those athletes.)
March Madness? Yeah, but it actually lasts all year long.

30 years ago my father said they should just drop the pretense of student athletes and call it what it is – minor league.

Uh-Oh. Anyone else get a sudden flashback to Duke’s days as the General Manager of the Washington Redskins, and “Lava-Lava Lenny”?

Time for “March Madness”, folks.
BTW, where did BD and Ray suddenly come from???
masterskrain said, 2 months ago
@SUSAN NEWMAN
BD is still the head Football coach at Walden.
I guess Ray is now his assistant…

Ah, thank you, well put. You and I share a very similar view of the slave labor that NCAA and its universities profit from. And the first excuse the uninformed grasp at is the “free” education excuse.
