"Garry Trudeau is the premier American social and political satirist of his time." -Newsweek Doonesbury has managed to be articulate, abrasive, political, compassionate, misunderstood, misprinted, and outrageous - but one thing it's never been is complacent. Garry Trudeau's creation has chronicled American history and culture in a parallel universe. And through it all, Doonesbury has always been honest, entertaining, and thought-provoking.

Seems like the only guys who approach her are pathetic losers. Most guys know enough to stay far away.

It may be some sort of Kafkaesque curse, something that Karma is punishing her for, because of something that she has done … like blowing off one nice guy too many.

Perhaps Drew has a future in training suicide bombers…

All the losers who are attracted to Drew are only interested in superficial, surface beauty. Leo–bless him–is able to see Alex’s INNER beauty.

@Chikuku & puppybreath: A cause can only truly be worth living for if it is worth dying for.
Me, I’d rather have no cause. Total apathy. Who cares?
Give Up.

As Gen. Patton remarked when addressing a bunch of new troops, “We don’t want you to die for your country. We want that other poor son of a b*tch to die for HIS!”

Truer truth was never spoken RSR. Thank you for that.
As for Drew—well her type is perpetual. In the extreme they are Lohan and Spears.

John Pike, what “type” is that? Does Drew do anything to encourage her suitors, other than simply be herself? Does she “tease”? Does she manipulate? Does she abuse the power she knows she has over her admirers? As she’s been written so far, it seems the contrary is more likely; she knows she’s hot, but it’s simply an objective fact; she doesn’t trade on it. So what are her obligations towards her suitors? Yes, “Please go away” would have been nicer than “Go away,” but surely she can’t be expected to treat every obsessive declaration of passion as a compliment.
Her situation is similar to movie stars who can’t go out in public without “fans” thinking they have a right to an autograph, or a snapshot, a conversation, or even a smile; and if the star is less than forthcoming with the demanded acquiescence, then s/he’s “arrogant.” But Drew hasn’t even chosen to put herself in this position, she’s just blessed/cursed with being highly attractive, even to those she has no interest in attracting.
I don’t know whether the choice to rerun this particular sequence is a coincidence or not, but there are parallels between Drew’s experiences here an Mel’s history with her male comrades. If the two characters were to meet, they’d probably have much to talk about.
