Babies and puppies are both quite cute, but underneath the soft, cuddly exteriors lie the fearsome hearts of competitors. Well, not really. When a new baby joins the household, Sophie the dog is initially irritated, but eventually comes to see the baby, Doug, as the asset he is: a better way to get snacks. Though the baby is still hogging precious attention, and has a tendency to pull ears and be a general nuisance, a begrudging friendship forms between the two rivals. Watch the mischief unfold in Brian Anderson’s Dog Eat Doug.

The Cat, The Other Cat is how we refer to the two at our house.

Good names, but Darth Maul & Darth Vader would have sufficed….

I used to know a woman who had two cats, one black, one white. She didn’t bother to name them but they ended up referred to as the Black One and the White One. Then she got another black cat and it became Black Too. By the time I lost track of her she was up to Black Three and Black Four.

Human names – bah. No one will know our true cat names.

Officially, my two are Four Socks * Li’l Socks – they each have 4 white paws. But we get along with Little Girl and Little Boy. And for today, well I think it’s obvious that the brown one is Chewbacca. Why such complicated names?

@teddy16
“why complicated names?”
“Because humans think it is cute!”
so my cat tells me.

I’ll bet it was Chewbacca that went for the snacks!

In our house, the names are always “evolving”. For example, years ago, we had a siamese that we called Figaro. Over time, it became “Fig”, Fig Newton", “Newton” and then, “Newt”. (That was when I was a kid in the 60’s…. PRE-Newt Gingrich )
I would guess that something similar might happen with these 2 littles ones…

Hmmmm……maybe that’s how Newt Gingrich became “Newt”!
Figaro Gingrich???

Calling a cat, “Chewbacca,” really is contemptible. I’ll have to think about, “Equinox.” Maybe they could just call him, “Vern.”

I’ve always loved beautiful names for my cats, sometimes foreign language ones. One of my cats was Dragutsa Mica which is Romanian, Keiko which is Japanese, Macushla which is Irish, Ruari which is Irish. But there’s something about The Cat and The Other Cat that I find very cute.

My 14 yr old cat is named Jack (my daughter was 3 at the time and Titanic was big then, she named him) And now we took in my nephews cat, an extra toed black beauty who came with the name Lexus (the nephew wanted that type of car), I just call her Lexie.
