Babies and puppies are both quite cute, but underneath the soft, cuddly exteriors lie the fearsome hearts of competitors. Well, not really. When a new baby joins the household, Sophie the dog is initially irritated, but eventually comes to see the baby, Doug, as the asset he is: a better way to get snacks. Though the baby is still hogging precious attention, and has a tendency to pull ears and be a general nuisance, a begrudging friendship forms between the two rivals. Watch the mischief unfold in Brian Anderson’s Dog Eat Doug.

Sorry, Brian but if you don’t do something quick, these cats will never look cute. Sophie looked sweet from the start – it was the way you drew her. My two cats look sweet … it’s in the paws, I think.

Hey Brian why are you getting so weird. When I first began reading, Sophie was so darling. Now, every day this comic strip is becoming much more weird. Get back to the way you started this and forget the strange eyes and monsters.

I’m all for the current weirdness, there are more than enough sappy happy puppie strips. I personally like the alien look of the cats and welcome their addition to the strip.

Perhaps I’m in the minority, but I, for one, think this is drawn perfectly! To me, it conveys very clearly the whole “fur ball” process, yet retains its cuteness and adorability. That’s not an easy thing to do! I like the eyes and the paws. How do you all see it so differently from Sophie’s empty-circle eyes and paws?
Again, maybe I’m an approving audience of one, but it does seem to me that lately, everyone has a serious case of nit-picking going on. Perhaps reacting to change is a little tough, but let’s just be patient and enjoy the evolution of the strip and these new characters. I am not a “cat person” per se, but I think these two kittens are cute and full of personality…and show great promise as supporting characters.

They do look alien don’t they? More than likely, the more I draw them the more they will evolve. Slightly.

well said, I am a cat person and my cats are adorable in their own way, even if sometimes they are alien abductees once in a while!

It’s not just in how they look, but the specific noise they make whenever they’re fixing to blurp up a hairball. I know to get them into a place that will be easier for me to clean it up.

This is typical kitten behavior. My dear ol’ cat (nearly 14 now) still has his “manic” moments of wildly running around the house for no particular reason. His big golden eyes still can be adorable though, even when you realize his cataracts are getting larger. Poor darlin’.

My 14 year old cat died of cancer a few months back and I miss her. I’m too old and sick to take another cat, which would most certainly outlive me, so I am enjoying the kittens that Sophie and Doug have to merely “put up with”. I should be so lucky! I like the way they look and their manner of conversation.

Sophie and doug are adorable, the cats…. meh. And I’m a cat person. I would probably enjoy more of the cat/baby interactions.
.
My then 7 year old kitty taunted both our children as they were learning to crawl and move around by flopping down in front them, rolling and then as they inched closer, moving just out of reach. This worked both hort and vert, which is probably why my son learned to climb up boxes before he could crawl. . . .
