Palin’s and Rice’s books are in the dollar stores now – what a difference a year makes.

Going back to yesterday’s discussion on the first president of the United States, I think we have four candidates, depending on when the US became a country.1. Peyton Randolph was elected president of the Continental Congress in 1774. This was before the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution.2. John Hancock was president of the Congress when the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776.3. Samuel Huntington was the first president of Congress under the Articles of Confederation, which were ratified in 1781.4. George Washington was the first President of the United States under the Constitution, which was ratified in 1787.

I vote for John Hancock, since the US became a country after the Declaration. The other three certainly have their own legitimate claims to the title of first president.

Wish Trudeau would explain how Jeff went from hero to zero with his morgage. Easy come, easy go, but details are nice!

Like Holden Caulfield, he’s likely skirting the fact that he’s really being institutionalized. Sigh!

Fascinating that Trudeau thinks a rerun series is more interesting than anything happening politically at the moment.

I’m going to stick with Washington, on the grounds that there was an America, but no United States, until they were actually united by the Constitution being ratified. Before that, they could still be 13 small countries.

Well, as old as this strip is if you check out the news today in Libya, it seems to be fairly topical. I realize that the character is caught up in his own story, but he is someone who is trying to play on what is going on in the middle east and his own fantasy world. Well, guess what? Our embassy in Libya was attacked yesterday, several people were killed, among them our own ambassador. Why? Because some extremists who thought that God was on their side, felt they had the right to do what they did. Obama has condemned the attacks. Meanwhile, Romney has accused Obama of “sympathizing” with the attackers. This was to be expected, yet, just once, couldn’t he act like an adult?

We have no idea how long Trudeau may have planned to be on vacation this week. I am sure that he has a contract which states exactly how much content he has to produce and when he is to go on vacation. Meanwhile, the world does continue to turn, convenient or not…

Even though GT works on a shorter deadline than most cartoonists, he may still have prepared a storyline that became inappropriate or irrelevant due to circumstances. That does happen once in a while and they may have pulled it and replaced it with these. Fox Trot yanked one strip after teh Aurora, CO shooting. We the readers do not always know the whys of these things.

So sorry you were inconvenienced by being reminded of the deaths of 3000 innocent Americans, but I’m happy you had Kris Jenner’s breasts to take your mind off depressing things.

As Libya is rumbling. two comments:

    1. Freedom of speech was always assumed to come with a license. One does not cry fire in a crowded theater. Revolutionaries in that area took a bad film to use for their own purposes, but you really have to recognize not to give them gasoline to begin with.2. I sincerely hope those who yesterday considered my comments on the change in the Republican party the last twenty years and linking it to the 9/11 tragedy to be inappropriate will not become hypocrites and use THIS tragedy for political fodder. Someone might kept bringing up what you said and using it against you.

Obama didn’t push for the 3 Stooges, (Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld) to be prosecuted for war crimes because he feared a military coup (His own words). Yet he appeased them by allowing the CIA to instigate instability, the Arab Spring, by hiring Al Qaeda terrorists to do the dirty opposition work. Blowback is on it’s way again, just like Bin Laden in Afghanistan. We need to put an end to globalizm before it engulfs the world in flames. IMHO

Maybe we should just stay home and mind our own business…then we wouldn’t have disgruntled freedom fighters killing our citizens. Seems to me we should have talked to Russia before we entered the graveyard of empires.
