Evelyn: I should listened to the Professor's advice: "Don't grow 'zukes' unless you have a plan for them." Now, here I am, stalking the halls of my retirement home at midnight. Leaving twenty-pound "gifts" for unsuspecting neighbors...gardening isn't for sissies! Voice: Who's there?

One of our neighbors once left a bluefish in our garage. Our dog found it before we did. We discovered he had eaten half of it, neatly stripping flesh from bones. There are few things worse than waking up to a belching dog who smells like an overfed cat.

Pick the zukes while they are still small – then they will be a smaller problem, too.

Sometimes you have no choice. One day the zuke is pencil size. You go back the next day and you could use it as a club—it’s now more than a foot long. Surprise! The Zucchini Fairy was here!

You can pickle just about anything, it’s just another way of preserving food. But, a zuke is a squash, not a cucumber so it wouldn’t make a good pickle.
