Things like knowing your direction seems to be difficult for some people Others know how to tell East and West if the sun is shining. Some of us just know. But no matter what, don’t try getting anywhere at night unless there is a light ahaed to guide you. Flashlights in the wild aren’t much use except around camp.Oh, and moss on the trees isn’t always reliable.
Moss on the trees never worked for me. The people who talk about that do not live in the south where the only moss we have is Spanish Moss hanging in our Live Oak Trees. There’s as much moss on one side of the tree as the other.
Good morning Vagabonds. Another beautiful day here in paradise. Sun is shining, temp is below 75 and all of my windows are open to the breezes.
Slim, I’m afraid I’m one of those who knows East from West because of the sun. At least I’m smart enough to know my own ignorance. I LOVE my GPS! (Although we’ve had an adventure or two following the GPS through unknown territory.)
If any of you like mini-adventures, go to geocaching,com and check out the “sport” of geocaching. It’s like treasure hunting and can be a lot of fun. We’ve done as many as 8 caches in a day in the desert surrounding Victorville. Haven’t tried it here, mostly because of the severe weather, but looking forward to it. You have to use a handheld GPS unit in order to find the caches (see my above paragraph to Slim.) There are caches all over the world – we’ve gone hunting in Maine – and I just looked up my local zip code and there are more than 800 within a ten mile radius of us.
Hi all..I do get around on this job of mine. Just setting at a library and catching the WIFI..I’ve heard of geocaching, sounds like fun, have to look it up.As I understand you have to leave something in the place of what ever you find..My time’s up gotta go, later .ttfn
Good Afternoon Everyone..Moss on a tree never worked for me either. I don’t like wandering the woods a night, like you said a flashlight just doesn’t provide the right light. I like to get settleled while there is plenty of daylight. :).Tomorrow I head out for my sister’s farm in Ohio. I don’t know what kind of internet service I will have out there so I don’t know when I will post next. I won’t be back home until 22 June. My father is 88 years old and losing his mind to Parkinson’s his health has been in a steady decline for the past year so I want to spend as much time as possible with him this trip as I don’t know when I will be able to get back there again..So everyone take care and I will holler at you all when I can!
Hey, Jan……………thanks for the tip about geocaching! We are always looking for ways to do new things for us 2, let alone when folks come to visit! There were 1890 geocaches in our immediate area……Woo Hoo! Of course, we don’t have a GPS, but………our kids all do…….so when they come up to visit, we’ll be able to do things.
sorry folks, don’t mean to intrude. but I happened to notice Benitin y Eneas was back in the regular line up by Baldo en Espanol. On June 2, Arye Uygur dropped by to inquire if we knew where the stirp had gone. Anywho, I read your comments today, and I have a question, I have a friend here who geo-caches. I find it interesting, and like Montana Lady would like to try it, but I hate to buy a GPS if my hubby and sons decide they don’t like it. My friend says it can be done with Topo maps which I know how to read, but it is more tedious and not that accurate. What do you here who have done geo-caching think about that for a beginner? I subscribe to Groundspeak newsletters but almost if not all of it, deals with GPS. Thank you! :-)
