I remember in The Grapes of Wrath, Tom’s uncle ate a whole pig in one sitting. So Pig should be careful around Steinbeck characters.

They should at least find out how the book ends first.

A couple of months ago I saw “Of Mice and Men” done as an opera. It was interesting. The composer, Carlisle Floyd, was there.

Creepy @#%&*! book. If Steinbeck wasn’t clinically depressed, he sure passed it on a lot.

Actually it’s the estate of John Steinbeck that should be getting royalties from Pastis.

Anyway, Pastis is hardly the first to copy the short crafty friend/big dumb friend characters. It’s been done many times in cartoons (Ren and Stimpy, anyone?).

I think that Pig and Rat are more like Lenny and Squiggy than Lennie and George.

Peabody, ne7minder, yeah, Pig might want to check out the ending first before he gets all excited….BTW, if you haven’t read Totilla Flat, Cannery Row and it’s sequel, Sweet Tuesday, treat yourself to some funny stories, written by a master who could write about common folks with gentle compassion…
