I am very much going to miss the beautiful warm glow of dimmed incandescent light bulbs.

Edison did not invent the first lightbulb. Also he toured the country and electrocuted elephants for demonstrations. I just want to set the record straight because i think he was a despicable person and not to be honored. I do love the comic, though!

BINGO! I guess people like treesareus get headaches at … the mall, school, work, church, grocery store, beer store, etc etc.

I’m working on replacing my CFL’s however, with white LED light bulbs … same light as 100w incandescent but, 1/100th the power.

I’ve been stocking up on old-style bulbs. I don’t care that they give off heat; I’m using them mostly during Winter when the extra heat is a plus.

Don’t like the CFL’s. But I did find the ‘natural light’ ones and will be gradually switching over from the regular CFL’s I currently have in place. .CFL’s don’t last as long as they say they will. I;m lucky if the one in the hallway will last a year. I complained last weekend to the BC Hydro rep at a sustainable Expo. (here – we don’t get water from Hydro – we get power). Was given all the crap about not turning things on/off multiple times, using Energy Eff. Star rated…. Problem is – not all buildings are wired to accept anything but the old light bulbs. Because the bldgs are TOO old. Not all CFL’s can be used in an enclosed globe, or be screwed in upside down or sideways. And then there’s the nasty mercury. .Waiting for the LED’s to flood the market. Then the price will come down. As it is now, there is no choice – in my province – incandescent bulbs are no longer sold. Unless a store has a stockpile. They have been banned.

When they get hot, they emit some kind of poison gas from the base, probably cyanide from hot plastic. I got sick reading by one on an end table next to me. I moved it to a telephone nook rarely used nowadays but when I worked on the telephone wiring there one day, I got sick again – headache & nausea both times lasted about 1-2 hours.

If these bulbs are so great, why did the government have to try to ban the incandescent bulbs? If they are so great, people would be adopting them without coercion.Yeah, I hate the light they put out as well, and no, it is not the same as regular fluorescents. They also give new meaning to “the speed of light”. I can now switch on the lights in the bathroom and be to the sink before the light comes on when it is cool.
