I believe their ruling said in effect, “No probable cause”, which is a slope slippery enough for “Patriot Act” acceptance of gee, “conservative” justice?

In the past I’ve said that Tom Toles is at his best when he draws elephants, and I’ve thought that he too often lets being funny get take precedence over commentary. But in the past couple weeks, he has hit one nail right on the head after another, still made me chuckle and all with only an occasional elephant. Today’s cartoon is especially good. (I do still like his elephants though.)

Are all the people who are whining about the mandatory insurance provision now going after the fact that many of us have been mandated by government to buy car insurance for several decades?

Well, all the health-care debate is fun and all, but I think the cartoon is referring to the man who was arrested for not paying a traffic fine (when, in fact, he had paid it and had proof and it wasn’t an arrest-level offense anyway), thrown in jail for six days and cavity searched twice—and the Supreme Court ruled that his rights hadn’t been violated.

    It’s like this:

A black man gets pulled in for an unpaid traffic ticket ( Which he HAD paid, oopsie! ) and gets strip searched not once, but twice.

A white man gets pulled in for killing an unarmed black teenager, and…..NOTHING!

They argue for that and leave the oil speculators ALONE. Sheesh!

@Bruce4671Sure, you don’t have to buy a car if you don’t want. But are you seriously suggesting there are people out there who will never go to a doctor, never get a prescription, never use the health care system at all?

Safer than surfing the Internet. Your computer, unlike your TV, watches you back.

This ruling by the Supreme Court is unconscionable! With no reason to suspect any drugs or contraband, this man was strip-searched twice! Makes you think the police get their jollies this way. I hope the congress will rapidly pass a law that takes this power away from police departments.

I had a seizure in my car on 3/14/2012 and was taken to jail for the night instead of an emergency room. If someone tried to strip me I may have fought back because only part of my brain was working. We need to stop the authoritarian extremists from using 9/11 as an excuse to unravel the rights the generations before us fought to maintain. This summer Occupy something and demand your rights.

I hope that the justices and many members of their families get stripped and searched. “oops. I left my billfold in my other pants! Really officerHow would you like these 5 $100.00 bills?”.

Used to strip search felony folks, especially drug dealers, before jailing them, it was NOT pleasant work! (and yes, it is amazing what folks will hide “where the sun don’t shine”) Did NOT need to strip misdemeanor folks.
