At 68 I don’t remember $0.15/gallon. $0.22-.25 maybe, and yes, I couldn’t afford a car. A dollars worth of the cheap stuff was the call sign of the roving teenager.

I actually remember $.99 a gallon, but not that far back.

First car: 1959 Triumph TR3. Gas: $.25 a Gal. Tank capacity: 16 Gal. MPG: 25. A penny per mile. Ah……, those were the days!

yep I remember a quarter and cigarettes were the same price and it seem they still are the same price. Oh got my 56 desota for 25 bucks

18 cent gas during a gas war. 25 cents regular price. Remember cigarette machines where it’d spit out a book of matches with the ciggs? And the cigg pack would have a couple pennies change stuck inside the cellophane? Used to go to the corner store and get ciggs for my dad, pull off the cellophane and take the pennies to get penny candy. Kids today have no idea what “penny” candy is. More like dollar candy.

I traded an old van for a muscle car and gas rose to $.35 – that was terrible. I should have put it on blocks.

Gas was 29c a gallon when I first became aware of gas prices. I also worked part time as a service station at 50c/hr and managed to save enough to buy my first car - $295 for a 1950 Chevrolet.

The auto was pretty much just made up to look like a late ‘50s something or other. It was quite small, so I didn’t think it mattered too much about the logos and such. I just was trying to set a “time” reference.

When I started driving, grade 93 gas was $1.25 a gallon, ah the good ole days…

Filled up the car from empty, bought a coke and butterfinger…and got change from a $5.00 bill…ah, the life.

56 Chevy 2 door. 4 on the floor after market. 20 cents per Gal. $100.00 for the car. it had a propane fuel kit in it that i took out and sold for $150.00. Good times in 1968.

…plus a free drinking glass and triple green stamps. Good thing, too, since we didn’t have $$ to buy the household goods we redeemed from the green stamp catalog. We had less back then, and appreciated it a lot more.
