But Jesus also added what I call the “Hidden Commandment.” By saying “Love your neighbor as yourself,” he is also saying “You shall love yourself.” I get tired of hearing that Christianity demands self-abasing, self-abuse and self-hate. After years of studying, I have analyzed the 10 Commandments by dividing them into two sets of 5. Commandments 1 through 4 help us to “Love God.” Commandments 6 through 9 help us to “Love Neighbor.” And Commandments 5 and 10, the last in each of the two sets, help us to “Love Self.” Number 5 is telling us to honor our heritage and Number 10 is telling us to Respect Self.
