It would be impossible for an independent to win the White House. So we have a choice between the smart, decent and honorable man who currently has the job, or the freak show of candidates left in the hunt for the GOP nomination. An incredibly easy choice!

“Until he defeated Hillary, I don’t think anybody thought he could really win; then they had no alternative.”

I have to disagree with that. When Obama delivered the keynote speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, I said to myself “That guy’s going to be President someday.” It just happened sooner than I expected.

Actually It was a former Sen. Hillary Supporter with a case of sour grapes that had called the Sen. McCain campaign office. That said that the rumors of his birth place in Kenya and that Sen. Obama was muslim were true.

From there the birthers took over. As it seemed to confirm what they wanted. Unfortunately, like so many things. before McCain could tamp down the stupidity of this on his end. The call was confirmed to the media as being legitimately made from the the campaign offices of Hillary Clinton.. Every one else forgot that Sen. McCain himself never really believed the nonsense.

What really comes down to was that for some people to see a black man in office was just too much for them. Racism it seems is alive and well in the 21rst century. And yes tin hat wearing fools will believe the worse of anyone.

Those were primary antics introduced by Hilary’s campaign. Notice how the dems didn’t fall for them. They quickly became a primary nonissue.

But look how the “facts don’t matter” righties CONTINUE to push them even three years later.

I’m from England, and I don’t understand most of these political comments. But I can tell you that all over the world, folks respect and admire your President and appreciate him all the more because of his illiterate, warmongering predecessor. Please appreciate him more! Please!! I’m sorry he’s not white or charismatic but he is intelligent, articulate (if you listen) and has done more for your wonderful country than you seem prepared to acknowledge. Vote for reason, not just gut feel!

I did read his books and I am well aware of his upbringing. Having a father from Africa accounts for the Muslim name. Duh. Many who grew up in America demonstrated no connection to Christianity before their twenties. Especially those who had mothers who were not interested in attending church and no father available. Many of us who attended church before our twenties would certainly not have done so if we had not been dragged along by our families. Reality check.

Tigger: fortunately, when presented with the facts, the Dems corrected their opinions. The Repubs, on the other hand, refuse to let the facts confuse them, and instead chose to wallow in their ignorance, which is to say, act naturally.

Obama won because Hillary is a woman, and people weren’t ready for a woman president,I think Hillary’s vote in favor of the Iraq invasion had something to do with it as well. Not to mention that a lot of people were looking for a true liberal and not someone who had been in Washington for many years. Both Clinton and Obama are pretty centrist, but Obama did a better job of reaching out to the progressive base. Those who read Ted Rall know that Obama gets almost as much anger from the far left as he does from the far right.

Sigh… No one said if you are against Obama you are automatically a racist. However, if you depict him in a derogatory racist manner, as many of his opponents have, using the n word, showing him eating watermelon, etc. then you should expect to be called a racist, since that is by definition exactly what you are.

I’ll tell you one thing, though. The reason SARAH PALIN got the nod to be McCain’s running mate was becuse Hillary lost the Democratic nomination. The GOP thought they could pick up millions of female voters who were upset over that. Didn’t happen. (Well, except for Tigger.)

Obama won because a lot of the folks who don’t normally vote, finally woke up. Many of the disenfranchised in the US don’t normally vote. That changed in 2008. That is why the GOP is now doing their best to turn back that tide, by bringing back what amounts to a poll tax, as in days of old, by asking for photo voter ID. Many of the poor and elderly don’t have a photo ID since many of them don’t drive. Voter fraud is basically a nonissue. When it does happen, it happens just as often on the other side, as in GOP voters committing fraud.

As a harvard trained lawyer, someone who taught constructional law at a law school, was president of Harvard law review, few presidents have ever been as smart or well schooled on the US constitution as our current president. Obama isn’t perfect but he sure beats anybody on the other side.

In short, Obama won the Democratic nomination because he won more delegates in the primaries than Hillary Clinton. So for a start, you have all those voters in the primaries who “thought he could do it.” After that, he won the Presidency because he won more electoral votes than McCain.

The only people who would have been surprised that Obama won the election were those who thought the disaffected Clinton supporters would throw their support to McCain/Palin, and like I said that didn’t happen. Considering that the vitriol directed towards Mrs. Clinton by the Republicans for the previous 16 years outstripped whatever ill-treatment she may have suffered during the primaries by an order of magnitude, again that should have surprised NOBODY.

Obama can’t just snap his fingers and get everything he wants. And you wouldn’t have it any other way. A whole process must be followed. It sure helps if the GOP isn’t obstructing every time he turns around, but since that is their goal, instead of thinking of country first, that is how it goes.

At Harvard Law School, Obama graduated magna cum laude, this is awarded to those who graduate in the top 10% of their class. This is in the public record. You don’t graduate magna cum laude from Harvard Law School by being a C student. It simply doesn’t work that way. But I don’t expect his critics to accept this….

Talk about the vitriol in the GOP primaries, Hill lost in ‘08 because she wasn’t “likable enough”. She accused Barack of taking a play out of Karl Rove’s play book (3:18) and then scolded him, like she scolded that African reporter on her first trip to Africa, after becoming Sec of State.

Who’s yo daddy now? GoComics should have a strip covering politics.

Anyone who thinks McCain is in any form a “nice guy” should have been in the audience when he gave the 2004 commencement address at the University of Arizona. I was, and sat in horror and disgust as McCain talked for over an hour about all the countries we needed to invade for “regime change” because he felt they were not up to snuff on human rights. Like war is a benefit to human rights. Yeah, you have the right to remain DEAD. He is a war monger of the first order and his candidacy is what got me politically active because I knew he had to be defeated. Thankfully, he tapped Caribou Barbie for VP, and his defeat was ensured.

Except that like the rest of the GOP, he is in favor of cutting off people in need, the elderly, disabled and children in need. The Christian compassion of the GOP wanting to force everyone to fend for themselves no matter what is preventing them from being able to survive, let alone succeed, is amazing.
