It’s called an answering machine, Elly, and I know they existed 25 years ago. Of course, way up here in 2012, we have voice mail for that now.

I had much the same family values. in fact I was even locking the baffroom door until long after my marriage ended when it struck me that the only one likely to walk in while I was in the tub was the dog.

I don’t how going into the bathroom whiling someone is taking a bath/shower has to do with liberalism or conservatism?

Oh, baldersash! The only real bathroom measure of sophistication is whether or not you get out of the shower to pee. And I ain’t sayin’ which one is more sophisticated.

Oh she is soo cute!!! I was going to say that I wouldn’t have been allowed to answer the phone at her age. My parents didn’t want people to think that a kid was alone in the house (even if a parent was in the bathroom). I only let my kids answer the phone when I know who is calling, but caller ID wasn’t in existence in the 80s.As far as going into the bathroom, it was okay when my kids were toddlers because it was easier to keep an eye on them. But once they got older (6, I guess), they were prohibited so that they could learn the concept of privacy and private parts, etc.

Private time in the bathroom, what’s that? My grown kids all know how to pick the bathroom lock. Sometimes I think they come in just to comment on the smell.

Many years ago a good friend of mine suffered a heart attack while in the bathroom. Since the bathroom door was locked, his son had to go to the fire escape to crawl into the bathroom window to open the door. Since then, I may close the bathroom door, but never lock it. A closed door should be respected as if it’s locked.

Not politically conservative; more like socially reserved type conservative. As far as the answering machine goes, even if they had one Elizabeth would probably grab the phone before it had a chance to pick up the call.

There is a simple key for interior locks. I always kept one hidden in case one of my children locked herself in the bathroom – I could easily unlock that door.

Same here. I would never take my children in the bathroom whether shower or bath. No way.Liza gave way too much out but then she should not answer the phone.

I remember crawling into the bathroom while my Dad was taking a shower. He got so mad and yelled so loud I spent the next half hour under the bed. Scary that. I must have been pretty young to still be crawling, but the experience was burned into my brain for a lifetime.

Liz is female. Ellie is female. No problem.I know families who 4 and 5 year old siblings of OPPOSITE gender still bathe together sometimes.

Elly needs to get on that “Do Not Call” list, but then again that probably wouldn’t help all that much either and we wouldn’t have a good comic strip to read.

Hopefully the man who called was a complete stranger and not a friend of the family! If that were me, I’d really hate it if a (male) friend was given all the embarrassing details regarding my bathing habits and then every time he saw me, he was secretly picturing me wet and naked . . . whether he wanted to or not!

I heard a cheesy little joke that relates to this comic. A little girl answered the phone and told the caller; “I’m not allowed to talk on the phone ‘cause i say embarrassing things. My mommy can’t come to the phone ‘cause she’s in the bathroom.”
