So it wasn’t Brad’s tally sheet. So TJ took more orders than anyone else at WW. Showed her how little she knows about people. She couldn’t push Toni around. She couldn’t make Brad tell Toni to go away. She couldn’t tell TJ what to call her or to come running at her beck and call. Yep – Ann is losing it!

Most of you would be amazed at how easy it is to get someone who, for example, orders a vodka/tonic to go from a $6 drink to a $11 drink by simply suggesting a higher shelf brand. Bill? I think we’d all hope you’d be more considerate of a “fellow author.” Tsk!

There are always those who will gripe and complain about one strip or another. If the storyline is so “stupid” or “idiotic” why don’t you simply stop reading it. I know if I don’t care for something like that I won’t keep trying to tell all the loyal followers how “bad” the line is but rather I’d read somthing else. I personally invite you to do just that. Go TJ, you rock! Oh, and keep rooting for Big Nate as well!

If only it were this easy. My Dad had a job once, selling advertising space. He came up with a way of, if not actually doubling sales, increasing them significantly. It got results. It also got him fired, because it wasn’t the boss’ way, and the boss’ ego would not let things be done any way but his own.Interestingly, the boss’ name was ‘King.’ Guess it took it literally.

As response to Bill the Butcher, Greg did not have Ann stating that TJ doubled the sales for the entire store (although TJ does restate that his goal was to do so). Ann states that TJ’s “take” (assuming this means sales) is twice anyone else’s. This requires no suspension of belief. It is quite possible and as such, very likely that TJ has doubled up everyone else in “take” (sales).

Actually, simply being nice and pleasant is a huge factor. I work retail, and always try to smile and use friendly words to keep the customer comfortable. I don’t know how many people I’ve convinced to buy a little something extra or not put something back. My register totals are pretty good, and I get a lot of Thank Yous for being friendly. And I’m not really fake-y either, I love laughing and being friendly, so it’s just not hard for me.

(Back a few days) Greg left out a few strips that explain Teflon Joker’s techniques. Doesn’t take too much imagination to fill in the holes. Joker yuks up the new customer who orders a hot dog, asks you want kraut or chili with that, and cheese? What’s your drink – bottomless? You want fries with that – supersized? Then he places the order and says it will be ready in a moment and turns to the next person and repeats the suggestions with variations – joking as he goes. Meanwhile the other clerks are robotic in taking the orders just as they are stated. Waits to take the next order until the previous one is delivered. Any doubt whose technique was more attractive – whose line do you want to be in?

TJ does not need the income from Weenie World.TJ’s sales are double that of the other counter people.Ann has not noticed that TJ is SERVING twice as many in line.Ann has not noticed an increase in PURCHASING.

    Conclusion:

TJ is buying Weenie World credit cards, which, he has noticed, are fully refundable if not activated within 30 days.

Last two days of story line:

    1. Ann fires TJ for the last time.2. Everybody, even Elwood and Shannon, are in line to get refunds.

Logical. Funny. Not a chance of my being right.

I get so tired of ordering what I want, only to hear, “Ya want fries with that?” or “d’ya want to supersize that?” If I had wanted either, I would have said so. Robotic morons behind the counter, in many cases. Can’t wait for TJ to drop the other shoe on Ann Awful! Hope it is a size 17.

Being on automatic is part of it, no doubt. However, at many places you are required to ask certain questions or risk being written up or possibly fired. Many companies have ‘secret shoppers’ that track exactly what you suggest to a customer and if you miss an item when you are waiting on them- even if they have stated previously that they do not want it- it counts against you.

Uh, “right” is sorta subjective – at the end of the “Brad gets rehired” arc there were a lot of really disappointed people who thought the easy-out ending was a cheat, and there was a lot of discussion, So if you’re racking up “right” points purely in terms of thumbs up, you’d be looking at Stephan Pastis’s backside a great deal of the time. The site is full of longtime readers, newbies and trolls who know that devoted fans will bite on their stupid bait,so you do the math. .The latter, btw, don’t give a damn about the strip OR the writer, just how much controversy they can generate and how many comments they can rack up.

Spigotman: I think you have some useful points regarding ISBN. However, I see two problems with it as an absolute criterion: 1. There is a lot of junk with an ISBN that I wouldn’t claim had any authorship; and 2. What about essayists, poets, and such whose works, unless republished in collections, lack the 50 page minimum to qualify for an ISBN?

Incidentally, give me about ten minutes for research and I think I can get you the ISBNs of most of my published authorship, although ISSNs would require too much time to bother. In fact, I think the list would be too boring to bother for the books as well. Suffice to say they include Scribner’s, Scarecrow, and my own publishing operation, Hippogriff Publications (thus my aka), plus innumerable magazine and newspaper articles and columns. Does that make me an author? My income tax form says “retired”, though I don’t believe it.
