If you think the Tea Party throws out the baby with the bathwater, then I think the Liberals drown it in the bathtub. Are you cheering for Jimmy Hoffa’s Brownshirt call to go to war against the SOB Tea Party? Why was Obama so strangely silent about Hoffa’s remarks? Is that what the Liberals have to offer along with more debt, more taxes, and oh yes, more wars they had promised to stop?

The Tea Party long for a simpler America of small towns and self-reliant farmers. Didn’t need health insurance in those days, when the small-town doctor had so little to work with that his chief function was to prevent you from making your situation worse with home remedies and make you as comfortable as possible while disease took its natural course. ( Life expectancy was a lot lower in those days for most people. ) Didn’t need social insurance, because the dire poverty of some was accepted as normal, and retirement was unknown except for the wealthy. A grade-school education was good enough for a farmhand, a housemaid, or a day laborer. The Tea Party really is standing up for values that were once progressive and admirable — two hundred years ago. In an agrarian, monocultural, and ethnocentric society of 3 million people, and ignoring slave population.

What the Tea Party doesn’t want to face up to is that America is now a mult-ethnic, multi-cultural, urban society of well over 300 million people. They conveniently forget that you cannot run New York City on the same set of rules that work in a small (government-and-oil-subsidized) town in Alaska. So they just dismiss the urban population as being “not real America.” When in fact, the family farmer and the rancher are now so much in the minority, that you could almost say that THEY are no longer the REAL America.

Irene should have reminded us all how very much more interconnected and interdependent we are now than our ancestors were. When you live without electricity, keep horses, and have your year’s food supply in the cellar, who don’t have to worry about downed power lines or the supply of gasoline, or disruptions to the supply of goods to the supermarket, or whether the stores and banks are going to be open.

My European friends like to say there are only two parties in America, the Conservatives (i.e. the Democrats), and the Reactionaries (i.e. the Republicans), but anything left of center doesn’t actually exist in the United States. They exaggerate. But they certainly have a point.

Well, at the Tea Party debate a few nights ago, the audience applauded and cheered the idea of an uninsured person dying rather than receiving health care.

“…Are you cheering for Jimmy Hoffa’s Brownshirt call to go to war against the SOB Tea Party? …” Cheering? No. But I understand it. If you go yelling “Those people aren’t REAL Americans!” What do you expect those people to do? Take off their skin suits and show that they are space aliens? They don’t like and they yell back.

@beenthere: Liberals did not start our current two wars. Furthermore, liberals are really pissed that we are still in them. Tea partiers are confused in that they have been led to believe that government is the problem. It is corporate subversion of government that is the problem. Mostly valid complaints, but directed at the wrong entity.

Yes, somehow it doesn’t seem like intelligent design to waste 1/3 of conceptions. More like evolution. And why do maple trees need thousands upon thousands of seeds? Couldn’t a really good creator manage one seed that is sure to germinate? That’s all you would need, if species are immutable.

Mary Jo Kopeckne could have been by Teddie’s side. Except, she is dead. Oops! My bad.
