Give them a cowboy hat and manners, a folksy way of speaking, a lot of empty promises and government bashing and they miraculously become irresistable to the American people as candidates for presidency
One of Bush’s speechwriters (David Frum) said this about Perry: “Perry is like Will Ferrell doing Bush, only on half speed.”Perry actually compared himself to Galileo as regards global climate change, when in fact he is more like the medieval Catholic Church on this one. Unbelievable. And the only reason why they had a balanced budget in Texas is because of federal help. They deliberately underfunded firefighting in Texas, so now they are begging for help. Gee, who will he beg for help from as President? The Chinese? Oh, wait, that’s what Bush did.
All that says to me vorty is that either the food stamp program’s requirements are screwed up, or they don’t have the reseources available to help everyone who needs it.
And how does that change the 18% number?
And are you SERIOUSLY suggesting that statistical evidence is not valid unless it’s backed up by anecdotal evidence?
Ah, the old “it happened before, therefore it doesn’t matter now” meme. Let’s use this logic some more!“The Earth used to be a ball of molten lava, so if it turns into one again, we don’t have to worry about it.”“The Earth used to be a pile of cosmic dust spat out from supernovae, so if we blow ourselves to dust, we don’t have to worry about it.”Now let’s try some facts and logic. Your argument is a fallacy of relevance: your initial point has no bearing on the conclusion. It is not individuals exaggerating normal natural phenomena; we now have actual rigorous, scientific measures of things like CO2 levels in the atmosphere (and strong evidence of patterns going back around 150,000 years), climate levels, average growth, and so forth. Anthropogenic Global Warming is not a religion; if it were, it would have remained unchanged in its assertions, measures, and ideas — like Rick Perry, or for that matter like your own assertions on this topic.
I think it was Tom Friedman who pointed out Perry was denying global warming while most of his state was on fire. The rest of the state is suffering drought- Perry may describe either “stupid” or “gullible” when describing his “clientele”.
Tom is on “Charlie Rose” right now and just again pointed out Perry must be oblivious to deny global warming.
Thanks, nice link. Fascinating how the mind works.
I followed the first link in that story, and found where Exxon spent 16 million on anti-global-warming groups. I remember a scientist weighing in on this discussion, and he said that what amazed him is the way people thought scientists were getting paid bundles to support GW. Grants generally cover the costs of running the experiments, while the scientist still draws the same salary from the institution that employs him. No, a scientist who wants to make the most money possible will become a shill for private business. That’s where the money is.

Even as the Texas Wildfires raged, Perry STILL found time to attend the Koch Brothers lil’ ‘seminar’.
