Wrong, Machado – there have been shifts up and down, but the evidence found in the air content in ice cores, among other sources, proves that they never happened anywhere near as fast as they are now, unless a global catastrophe like a giant meteor strike or a supervolcano eruption triggered them. There’s a reason that 97% of the scientists who study climate change agree that we’re causing most of it.
There was a really good two hour show on National Geographic a couple of weeks ago called X-Ray Earth.I recorded it and just watched the second part yesterday.I know they rerun those shows, so if it comes around I highly recommend it.Global warming was just part of what the show was about.
Still waiting for an answer from the libtards. If coal is out, and nuclear is out and oil is out and wind, solar and hydrogen are decades from being viable (if they ever are), what exactly are we supposed to use?Are we going back to the dark ages? Whale oil and candles?
Interesting the impacts from “coal fired plants” and other idiot manipulations by “Man” are jeopardizing nuclear plants as well. It isn’t about “giving it all up”, but merely going on a diet, and maybe settling for a little less of what we didn’t need in the first place. “Standard of living” doesn’t HAVE to be a death sentence for so many species, or the planet (with respect to at least OUR survival as well).
harley, if you actually cared about this, you’d do the research and you’d know the answers to your question. It doesn’t take a lot more CO2 to change the climate to where business as usual will be impossible. People in the future will look back at these comments and say “they knew positively for 50 years we were on the wrong track. Why did they not tax carbon? How could any one have been so stupid and careless?” You’re an embarrassment to conservatism.
There has been gradual warming, in fits and starts, of the earth’s atmosphere since the end of the Little Ice Age. It was warmer during the Roman and Medival Warm Periods. Wait until we start to cool again. Everyone will be screaming about a new Ice Age.
Y’all, it’s waaaaay too late to do anything, so just continue on and enjoy what’s left. And judging by what they claim about this year’s weather (get used to it), there’s not much left.
Decades before wind is viable? I’ve been buying 100% wind generated power from Green Mountain Energy, in Texas, for years. It is all made possible by that wild eyed libtard, then Governor George W. Bush. We’ve got lots of windpower up and running and we’re building more. Coal? How twentieth century.
Read your utility bill. It says “An average household your size uses this many KWh.” Do you use less than that, or more than that? I am just your neighborhood hippy, or must be, because we use WAY less electricity than it says an average “us” does.
Something funny’s going on. This spring I did my Sarah Palin tour of the Great Plains part of America in my motor home. Amarillo, Tx. with temperatures in the 90’s and severe drought, I golfed with a man who lost his house to a wildfire a months ago.May 24 travelling northeast I hit Oklahoma City in a severe storm and the KOA campground manager was frantically waving guests into the tornado shelter because there were seven vortexes in the area. Next day the damage was devastating.May 31 on I29 south of Fargo winds were so severe transport trucks were being blown over. On a two lane stretch because of repairs one truck jack-knifed and flipped over coming directly at me. I hit the swampy ditch at 60 mph. and was grateful to still be alive.Minnesota, North Dakota, and Manitoba rivers at historic flood stage and towns being evacuated. Millions of acres flooded and going unseeded.I got home, went to bed, and assumed the foetal position.
From here, the second pic looks about normal. The nearest power plants are wind, solar, & WPA era hydroelectric (your granddaddy’s government job). In planning & under construction are more wind & solar, plus geothermal. Change is coming, change is good. How much global warming is due to waste heat from internal combustion, open fires, bearing friction in electric motors & generators, electrical resistance in every wire carrying power, & warm blooded lifeforms (which also produce CO₂ & methane)? By 1970’s data, is global warming the only thing keeping us from the next ice age?
Truth is not defined by fact but what you choose to believe. Plenty of people will choose to ignore what is happening right in front of them even as the tornado bears down. I still say go with nuclear. At least its waste is regulated and contained from beginning to end.

The forces of nature predate coal power plants by a considerable age.
