How do they know that he set the plane on fire, and how can they tell from the air?

So Grimm sets the plane on fire to attract attention and then disappears. Brilliant. One wonders how he ever got to be a general.

@doghollar - my guess is the same way as Custer.

Basic safety. If you’re in a plane crash, stay with the plane!

Custer was a general only temporarily. He was given a battlefield promotion. When the U.S. Civil War was over, he returned to the rank of Lt. Colonel.

Somewhere out in New Mexico, a land so dry There’s a General I heard of seemingly about to die Somewhere out in New Mexico the skies are blue He should have remained at the scene Now he is really screwed Someday he’ll look at this and wish he could put it all behind him Where he sweated till he dropped, vultures fly above the tree tops That’s where you will find him Somewhere out in New Mexico, hear the generals cry, “I’ve only got a pain in my ankle” “Why then , oh must I die” “I’d be happy with finding a little bit of shadow” “Then certainly, I would not fry“.

Not fair to the musicians, Norman. Some marches are quite good (John Phillip Sousa for instance).

Timeline of survival: No oxygen, you die in 3 minutes No water, you die in three days No food, you die in three weeks.

He burned the plane in hopes that they would find the crash site.

That gives them a center point to start a detailed search pattern.

With no water, if he stays by the plane, he’s dead if not found quickly.

If he leaves the plane, he might find enough water to extend his life, or find other things to help him survive.

No perfect choices, so you make the best ones you can.

    Morning, Anniephans!

He should have left a sign to indicate the direction he traveled from there.
