“I was living in style
When the walls fell in;
When I played my hand,
I looked like a joker.
Turned around–
Fate must have woke her,
‘Cause lady luck, she was
Waiting outside the door (with a double-barreled shotgun)!”
I am sure that “NO” is the answer, but at least it is still much better than the garbage that we had to read before to get our DT fix. I think that Jim B. is at least TRYING to restore some old quality to this strip.
I suppose at this point Locher is doing the writing and Brozman the artwork, so there’s really no reason to think the story lines would be any less awful. Brozman’s artwork *is* improving (but still inconsistent).
For neonleon: the story-line inconsistency was exactly why I proposed the idea that the Plenty’s bear-traps were rigged with car-alarm (the way-oversensitive type) circuitry.
Story is getting better each day, the comments about the bad art are getting old though. I think he is doing well with it. It certainly has looked worse then it does now…
I think we should lighten up on nitpicking the comic art and the storylines. It’s a comic strip. The storylines are fast-moving, breathless (Mahoney), packed with eye-popping action, if a little short on motive. Locher and Brozman are doing it in the Gould tradition. Chester never dealt much with criminal motivation, they were just pyschopaths for the most part. Gould never glorified the criminal as many movies have done since the late 60s. What’s uplifting about the new Tracy is it has more drive and intrigue in 3 panels a day than most television programs.
My first thought at the ‘SPLUCK’ noise is that One-Eye has just become No-Eye… but even as violent as Dick Tracy is, it’s probably just wishful thinking.
It’s puzzeling and difficult to undersatand why (?)
It’s like seeing a movie for the second time (having perused it earlier in those TMS “promotional” strips).
Back then, it looked like a massive improvement, today, you ask yourself “HOW could I have ever thought so (?)”, for this is really “All Crapp”. No disrespect to Fearless Fosdick.
Those “card” names and “pinched” face designs haven’t helped, they reflect the paucity of a now neutered artist, one with an “Old Mother Hubbard” Syndrome … his design cubbord is “bare” and like a confused, “disoriented” poker player, somehow manages to see a Queen of Diamonds and a Jack of Spades as a winning design pair.
Yeah, hitting the roulette wheel that way initially shouldn’t have rolled clear, he should have face planted into it. Still, Spluck is some kind of awesome.
Dag nab it! I was counting on him getting impaled on something humorous. And the roulette wheel would have been perfect! And I must agree, ‘spluck’ ranks among the all time best sound effects. I wonder where Dick landed? Maybe he’ll land on top of OEJ tomorrow!
I love these sound effects! If nothing else, Locher has a talent for good sound effects! He always seems to remember the juice that usually follows the impact.

The judges have scored OEJ’s dive:
7.5 6.2 6.2 6.9 5.8
A valiant attempt but the gold medal for diving remains the property of Queenie and the smokestack.

Well Igopogo–my judges scored one-eye’s dive at
6.1 4.8 4.7 5.1 3.2
Not even worthy of fifth place!
LOL.

What is that guy doing off the side of panel 2? He looks like he’s singing. Maybe he wandered in from performing in one of the lounges?
