You might think she has the right idea or not, but the way she has carried herself leaves a lot to be desired imo. Remember, this woman abdicated from her position as a governor in Alaska. Supposedly it was, at least partially, to protect her family from the negative attention of the media and the strain of the political life. THEN, first thing, she jumps head first in the debate on healthcare - one of the most vicious topics today - with some of the harshest and most divisive claims to date. That is the LAST thing you do if you want to protect your family life and avoid partisan attacks.

Feel free to disagree - but to me, this means that Sarah Palin chose to ditch her job as a governor of a state in order to get more national attention and avoid potentially embarassing probes, and then lied to everyone about why she did it. She might have the right idea, but that does not mean she’s the right person for it.

@mbeth01- the cartoon makes no mention that everyone who likes Mrs. Palin is like that - just that some are.

she quit the position she sought and voters entrusted to her for personal and political gain. That should bother even her fans.

What often gets overlooked is that she was found guilty of some ethical violations by members of her own party in Alaska and had to return taxpayer money for improper per diem claims, for improper use of state funds to pay for family travel absent an official purpose, and one more I can’t think of right now.

If she’s your hero, then you admire selfishness, graft and improper use of taxpayer funds. Guess you should admire a lot of other guilty pols too !

I suspect MBeth would like to think of herself as one of the highly intelligent people who think Palin has the right idea, since she says she’s totally offended that Mr. Oliphant thinks that anyone who likes Sarah Palin, is an illiterate idiot.

Yet, she seems a little shy to admit it directly. Are we a little shy, MBeth01? Or just embarrassed.

If the offense fits, wear it!! It looks just like you!

If the woman can’t construct a viable compound sentence correctly, ignore her.

If the Chinese CCommunists want to give her $300,000.00 for her first effort as a professional speaker, there is something really wrong with this picture.

I do hope the GOP is dumb and narcissistic enough to put Palin up for President. May they could get Vitter, the prostitute’s John from Louisiana, to “run” with her!!!

Just the leadership the GOP deserves!!

No Bob…..Palin/Sandford in 2012. THERE’S yer dream ticket.

BTW, this woman also ran up tens of millions of dollars in debt as the mayor of a town with a population of less than ten THOUSAND.

Anyway, I won’t be buying her book. Don’t get me wrong; I enjoy absurdist fiction as much as the next guy, but not when it’s written by someone whose command of the English language makes Bob and Doug Mackenzie sound like Mensa candidates in comparison.

If Sarah Palin was not a very attractive woman she never would have gotten the VP spot on the Republican ticket. However, she lacked ability and depth and really fomented a lot of hatred among the far right base. She will sell a lot of books because that is the way of the world. Too bad, but that’s life–unfair.

When will Libs come off their cloud? You know it’s just the misty vapors of self-delusion, don’t you? As pragmatic as Libs are; you are under the misconception that you actually know something. Many of us conservatives have ceased inhaling the bong fumes of idealism and have come to embrace ourselves and the “world” in all it’s warty beauty. Whether Sarah Palin is an intellectual genius is irrelevant…can she run an effective latrine detail? Can she run a community service without catering to pimps, prostitutes, and illegals? Or the chronically dis-affected? Can she run the Ship-of-State in a fair , practical and legal manner? Can Libs do that? That’s what we are all watching with Obama’s progress; and he is not appearing to be doing too well. In short, the truly successful leader will be one that stands for something and gets it done.

It would be amusing if it were not so unjustly partisan. The mainstream media including Pat are scared spitless that Sarah will mount a real challenge in future elections and they are trying for a pre-emptive strike. Us common folks like her and as Lincoln said God must have loved us he made so many of us!

Bob - You do know that there is no way the current Republican Party would support Lincoln, or let him be a canadiate.

The current Party doesn’t (except for wanting their vote) care for the common folks. Look back over the past eight years (and also over the 12 years of Reagan and first Bush) they are the Party of the rich and powerful.

After what has been going on for the past 8 years we are all tired and angry, but don’t let them use your anger against you.

One of the oldest rules of government for controlling people is to first get them angry, because once they are angry you can get them to do stupid things.

Health care in America is terrible, millions do not have and cannot get health care, and many with heatlh insurance lose it, or are denied treatment, because their health insurance company rule that they had a pre-exising condition.Yet what was the debate about this summer?

DEATH PANELS - ILLEGIALS MIGHT GET TREATMENT - THE GOVERMENT WOULD DENY YOU TREATMENT BECAUSE IT WOULD BE EXPENSESIVE (something my health insurance company already does)

That’s how it works. They take your anger, or get you angery, and there is no honest discussion, or debate. You may have many good reasons for supporting Palin, but to support her because “Liberials hate common folks” is a case of letting their anger cause you to make a bad choice.

Take a good look at what the Republican Party has done and then decide how they feel about “common folks.”

I have great sympathy for the illiterate, but I have little or no sympathy for the willfully ignorant who believe the world is only 6,000 years old, that AIDS is God’s punishment of homosexuals, that reading Harry Potter leads to devil-worship, or that a globule of undifferentiated cells has human rights.

Well, that’s what carricature does: it exaggerates traits to make a point. It can be overdone, and obviously Oliphant wasn’t depicting the average Republican here.

That aside, though, I hope the GOP can find a better leader and statesman than Palin. After all, even if they do not win, they are the party that will have to act as a corrective to the Democrats when they make mistakes.

There are many who THINK they are highly intelligent, just like Palin does. This doesn’t mean that they ARE intelligent. But in post-Bush America, just repeating something enough times makes it magically true.

Pup: the answers to your questions on Sarah Palin are no, no, no, and yes. Funny – I’ve read about her performance as Mayor of Wasilla, where (for example) she sank the town in debt to pay for an arena it didn’t need – and you think she can be Leader of the Free World? Some level of intelligence is required. The average President is pretty bright, as far as retrospective analyses can tell. Certainly Clinton, Bush I, Carter, Nixon, FDR, TR, Eisenhower, and JFK were above average, and some were even brilliant. But more importantly is to be informed. Bush I avoided going into Iraq because he knew something about the world. His son, on the other hand, believed the neocon fantasies. Talk about the unreal world…!

Sarah Palin has not demonstrated that she can effectively run the state government of Alaska. She quit because it came to her attention that there is gold in them thar hills of giving speeches and writing a (ghost written) book because when you’re hot you’re hot (right now she is). I imagine she will eventually have her own show on Fox. None of this would be happening if she was not very physically attractive (think Ann Coulter).

That Palin’s impending non-book is already a pre-sold bestseller on Amazon suggests something fishy is going on.

When I worked at B.Dalton our paperback bestseller list always included DIANECTICS, the Scientology tract, yet none of us could ever recall actually selling a copy. Then we got in a supply of more copies fresh from the Scientology printer. A lot of them already had B.Dalton inventory stickers on them! This proved the Scientologists were buying copies enmasse in order to inflate their book’s sales figures.

Also, consider Newt Gingrich’s pathetic debut as an SF author, 1942. He was given a huge advance, far greater than a newcomer merited, even a celebrity newcomer. Then a very simple investigation showed the generous publisher was a Rupert Murdoch operation. Murdoch was using the excuse of the book’s impending existence as a means to funnel millions to his lackey.

So will Palin’s non-book have many real buyers? or rather, any real READERS? I wouldn’t bet on it.
