Nice nod to the late Ted Cassidy, who played a similar-looking alien on STAR TREK (not to mention Lurch)

Is Walt still alive in GASOLINE ALLEY ? Heck, is GASOLINE ALLEY still alive????It was a “real time” strip after all, and Walt drove a Model T he bought new.

The worst part of this Congressional fracass is that (hopefully) most of the folks making these gun-obsessed speeches are doing so because their speechwriters and strategists told them to do so in order to appease the blood-soaked NRA.

Given Obama is probably the smartest man to occupy the White House since Johnson, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt any time. Especially given the GOP only offfered senile ham actors (the Alzheimer’s was already detectabble in 81, folks) or mentally deficit ex-drug abusers.

Are there really people who miss that congenital liar / alcoholic /.draft evader Bush and the incredibly evil Cheney? Uh, folks, Cheney OKAYED BP’s lapses in safety the Gulf is now paying for !

I find the tower fascinating because here is one of the world’s most expensive buildings paid for by a country with no natural resources and whose economy is basically built on handling other people’s money. It is a very tall house of cards.

That said, the folks of Dubai are at least far more advanced culturally than their neighbors. One of my favorite images of Dubai shows two Arab women happily chatting on a beach. One is wearing the full gear, showing only her face, while the other woman wears only a bikini bottom.

Unfortunately it is that happy nearly-naked woman who represents what will finally attract the lethal attention of Dubai’s 7th Century neighbors.

That Palin’s impending non-book is already a pre-sold bestseller on Amazon suggests something fishy is going on.

When I worked at B.Dalton our paperback bestseller list always included DIANECTICS, the Scientology tract, yet none of us could ever recall actually selling a copy. Then we got in a supply of more copies fresh from the Scientology printer. A lot of them already had B.Dalton inventory stickers on them! This proved the Scientologists were buying copies enmasse in order to inflate their book’s sales figures.

Also, consider Newt Gingrich’s pathetic debut as an SF author, 1942. He was given a huge advance, far greater than a newcomer merited, even a celebrity newcomer. Then a very simple investigation showed the generous publisher was a Rupert Murdoch operation. Murdoch was using the excuse of the book’s impending existence as a means to funnel millions to his lackey.

So will Palin’s non-book have many real buyers? or rather, any real READERS? I wouldn’t bet on it.

BillWa, who is paying for the wars Republicans love to start? As for quoting Reagan, remember the man was showing signs of senility in his first year in office. Big Business isn’t the solution to the problem, Big Business IS the problem!
