Yeah, well, it would be nice if they synched up the sequence of repeats with the actual week of the year, like they do over at The Norm, but I’m still happy to be reading it.
Just for the record, I still find McGruder’s work in this format to be far superior to the animated stuff he inflicts on cable subscribers.
I got my first look at the “animation” only quite recently, and I guess we’ve all been spoiled by what Japan and Disney have done in recent years … these young lively minds look like slow robots when they have minimal Hanna-Barbera-type facial “animation,” made worse by deadpan (if not dead) bodies.
The strip is infinitely superior. Even when there is no motion from panel to panel, at least a story gets told or a point gets made.
I actually just changed my mind today, when I saw a much livelier segment - the first 5-10 minutes of the episode about Huey and Riley visiting a prison for a “scared straight” program with none other than Jazmine’s neurotic dad as chaperon … plenty of action. Not to mention, hilarious.
I wonder if the TV show has evolved from year to year in that way?
