Meet Aaron McGruder’s The Boondocks: Huey and Riley Freeman, Jazmine DuBois, and Huey’s best friend, Caesar. This comic strip reflects the racial diversity and complexity of our world. Combining Huey’s childish antics with contemporary political and social satire, the strip explores the terrain where dashikis and Brand Nubian CDs meet The Gap and Hanson.

Wow, this comic started on my fourth birthday, maybe that’s why I love it so much…

Never knew the Boondocks’ first strip feels the first strip of the great ones. A short but funny intro into the two main characters, Riley and Huey, and the setting of the story, Suburbia. Who’da thunk that it would literally become too popular for Aaron to keep on the print pages?

This is his first strip as far as national newspaper debut is concerned. Apparently he did some in college, and in The Source magazine. I’d like to see those one day.

I remember reading this comic when I was about 11 years old. I couldn’t believe that it had made it into a show on Adult Swim. Go Boondocks!
