I’ve only asked for autographs when I met an author at a book signing. I do not understand why people want autographs from actors.

I think selfies with celebs have replaced the desire for autographs ………… (Shudder) I’d hate to be famous!

I don’t think she’s ready for help she so desperately needs. Stalking people in rehab is just creepy. ☺️

My uncle was a name dropper. He and my dad grew up in NYC. After WWII my dad and mom settled in N CA and my uncle stayed in NYC and went to acting school. He never made it and became a stage manager. Eventually he got a job as a director at a local TV station. In the ‘60s my dad was in NY on business and mentioned to his brother that he had hoped to see “Fiddler on the Roof” but it was sold out. Herschel Bernardi had replaced Zero Mostel as Tevye. My uncle said, "I’ll call Hesch and see if he can do anything." My dad was filled with the warm glow of anticipated schadenfreude. The next day my uncle contacted him and told him that Hesch came through. My dad was happy to see the show but crushed that my uncle actually knew Bernardi well enough to get a ticket. Sibling rivalry.

Although I don’t collect autographs, I did have a younger friend who really want to meet a couple authors at a Sci-fi convention. He wasn’t sure how to approach someone whose work he loved. I just said ‘follow me’, walked up to one of his favorites when there was a lull, introduced myself and talked for a minute or so about his latest book (which I also enjoyed) then introduced my friend and mentioned would like an autograph if it wasn’t a bad time. He got his autograph, the author enjoyed my approach and my friend soloed successfully for the other writers he wanted to meet. Basically SF authors are friendly with very few exception.

As someone who loves autograph hunting, I would never attend such a gathering!
