What utter Bullsh-oney. It’s almost humorous to realize that either Varvel actually believes the drivel that Fox Snooze emits or else he just ponies up the lie du jour because that’s his paycheck.

Great portrayal of the president tuning out the real world while he has yet anothre vacation at the beach. He’s such a caring, compasionate leader … whe he talks….and nothing for the people struggling to survive. Anyone who doesn’t see how little he really cares isn’t looking at him.

Our fellow Americans suffer massive destruction and the death toll rises, and all president Biden can say is “no comment.” Maybe his……ahem…..stuttering problem is back. What a low life.

Mr. Varvel misquoted Joe Biden… What he actually said in response to a question about the death toll in Hawaii is, “No. No comment”. Get it right!

Varvel failed to show it was started by a Space Laser by the Gazpaucho!! Turns out that was a 2018 SpaceX launch but Varvel would never know the difference. Reality is only a vague concept to him. FEMA is giving each person $700 for immediate expenses, by the way. Thought I would inject some facts.

President Biden approved a disaster declaration for Maui, which started the ball rolling for relief.

What President Biden didn’t do is use a Sharpie to draw a line on a map where the fire ought to go, then lie he did it.

Except the fed govt has authorized $12 billion so far for emergency aid and President Biden has issued statements on the disaster. I guess, since he didn’t go there for no reason except PR and throw towels to the people, Varvel thinks he’s don’t nothing.

Oh, Gaaary. Yeah, you, Varvel, you oblivious RWNJ political cartoonist. This statement was released to the press/public on August 9, 2023.

I’m accusing you of being oblivious because I will pretend to be kind to you today. If I wasn’t kind, I’d be calling you a liar.

Which do you prefer, Gary: being called oblivious, or being called out for being a liar?

gocomics has blocked out the Aug 9 Whitehouse press release statement I copied and pasted both times I posted it in my two comments above. Let’s see what happens this time when I only post the statement itself, and do not include the google link to it:

Jill and I send our deepest condolences to the families of those who lost loved ones in the wildfires in Maui, and our prayers are with those who have seen their homes, businesses, and communities destroyed. We are grateful to the brave firefighters and first responders who continue to run toward danger, putting themselves in harm’s way to save lives.

I have ordered all available Federal assets on the Islands to help with response. The Hawaiian National Guard has mobilized Chinook Helicopters to help with fire suppression and search and rescue on the Island of Maui. The U.S. Coast Guard and Navy Third Fleets are supporting response and rescue efforts. The Army is providing Black Hawk Helicopters to fight the fires on the Big Island. The Department of Transportation is working with commercial airlines to evacuate tourists from Maui, and the Department of the Interior and the United States Department of Agriculture stand ready to support post fire recovery efforts.

I urge all residents to continue to follow evacuation orders, listen to the instructions of first responders and officials, and stay alert.

If any reader wants to confirm this is an exact copy of the President’s statement, I am unable to copy/paste the exact link here in the comments section.

You can confirm for yourselves that I am not making this up, though, by pasting (italics not necessary, I’m just highlighting the search term for you) Aug 9 Biden Hawaii statement.

There is no response that will satisfy anyone. Mr. Bush was in Arizona at John McCain’s birthday party when Katrina came to New Orleans. He flew over a few days later, looking concerned. Then a bunch of staffers and video people arrived at Jackson Square, turned on the floodlights, and Mr. Bush gave a nice speech about how we were going to fix this mess. Then the lights went as dark as the rest of the city and he was gone.

Mr. Trump, as noted, yucked it up with Puerto Rican officials after Maria, when only 15 of the hundreds of dead had yet been reported. Then he threw paper towels.

Does anyone think these are better responses?

Let’s stop playing politics: what purpose would Mr. Biden’s visit serve? He would get in the way. Whatever roads might be used for supplies would be closed for security. Is there an airport even open? And if so, is it large enough to land AF One? Certainly one can argue for smaller, but we have to have a press presence and Secret Service, so is multiple planes better? And how long should the president stay?

These people need generators and food and water and showers. They do not need theater for the sake of people who demand it.

“NO COMMENT”? Someone is not listening. Biden acted swiftly and fully with rescue and aid sent. He did not throw rolls of paper towels at anyone. Maybe that’s what some people miss.

Based on a pool report by Rob Crilly of the rightwing Daily Mail

POTUS stopped when he heard a question asking ‘any comment on the rising death toll in Maui.’ He appeared to say ‘no … No comment’ according to lip readers in the pool but could not be heard.

So many dumb comments. Bottom line, A reporter asked, “Any comment on the rising death totals in Maui”? All he had to do was say something like “We’ve got all available help there with more coming. I’ve declared Maui a state of emergency. We are acting swiftly, and can assure everyone that help is on the way”. I mean, most of us over 50 have heard basically the same speech from Republicans and Democrats, but Sleepy Joe can’t be trusted to say anything that’s not on a teleprompter. Thats your problem in a nutshell. And his Whitehouse Spokesperson, KJP, screwed up royally. “Senator Harino [sic], who I said the president spoke to just last night, he thanked the president for the immediate support of federal agencies have delivered for residents of Hawaii,” the Biden administration’s chief spokesperson told reporters, “And so does, has, so has Senator Shorts, Sharts — Schatz.”

Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), the first female senator from the Aloha State, is serving her second term in the upper chamber after having been a member of the House of Representatives for two consecutive terms.

So far, the federal response has been quite limited, perhaps awaiting specific requests from Hawaiian state authorities. There are very substantial federal resources in Hawaii, particularly the US Navy and the Coast Guard, that could be dispatched to Maui to provide emergency supplies and food. A cruise ship should be requisitioned to provide temporary housing for those made homeless by the fires.

When there is no water in the hydrants it’s climate change. And won’t climate change also be adding non-invasive plants to the area that turned into fuel for the fires?

Show stupidity on Varvel’s part. When there is a disaster, those living in the area don’t need the President there, they need the help and a President with his entourage, isn’t help. But Varvel prefers an idiot to throw paper towels instead of help.
