It would be great if some self-serve checkouts were hacked with this cartoon as the screen.

What they end up with is one poor schmuck having to run around to help 8 people with the little details they mess up. At least the regular cashiers only have to wait on one customer at a time.

Yeah try checque out an adult beverage.

Meaning the cashiers lost their jobs. I won’t use a self checkout. I want a real person.

Honestly, I don’t mind the self checkout most of the time as I’m pretty quick and at least I know my stuff will get bagged properly. Usually the only time I avoid it is at one chain where items discounted on their sell by date always require an employee to intervene to ring them up.

It takes me longer to check out myself. I read an article several years back that a study was done on self-checkout, and it does take longer. AI-BOOOOO!!!!

I use the hand scanner and scan everything in the cart – don’t bag as I don’t need more plastic bags in the environment – I have cloth carriers in my vehicle to put the groceries in – and insulated soft sided carriers for cold stuff…

if you come 15 minutes early and help unload the trucks you get a 1% discount at the self-checkout counter at Walliemart

And “shrinkage” goes way up, unless you have several people watching the self-checkout. Costco is checking membership IDs in self-checkout. My picture is old, gray and faded, just like me.

Stopped shopping at a grocery store near me that went to mostly self checkout and had only 1 cashier 6 months ago. So I stopped shopping there. I assume many others did the same as that store closed this week.

As my strength and stability decline and hand tremors become more common, it’s a nightmare for me to use the self check-out, especially since I usually shop only every two weeks and buy extra to keep from running out of certain items. The bagging area at SCO is so tiny and I have to lift the weight of each bag into my cart. At home, my “chauffeur” of the day carries the heavier bags and jugs to my door, bless her!

Amazon had a store with no checkouts. If it went into your cart, you got charged for it.

Remember kids, if profits go up with prices, that’s not “inflation”, that’s “price gouging”.

And they will want to check your Receipt as you exit the store.

Looks like this whole arrangement is a race to the bottom.

The several times I used self-checkout I paid myself with a few items. Mostly steak and ribs. O was not alone in doing so.

Same thing happened at the gas stations, remember? Or are you too young to remember when other people pumped your gas? And washed your windshields, and occasionally even checked your oil?

I ain’t laughing.
