In my zoo, I had a slate blue calico horse, a little red burro, an Angora stuffie (not related to Our IX Lives; this was early Fifties), a cast iron elephant doorstop with Real Ivory Tusks, a gift to my dad from his career Army baby brother (missing one tusk. Did you know you can’t bond ivory to cast iron with airplane glue? Neither did I.) and assorted teddy bears and Easter bunnies.
The mind of a child is a wondrous thing to behold.
P.S. When Alexandria and I go to the St. Louis Zoo the next time, I will ask where the Hipplepuddlemuff’s are. But, of course, then the zoo attendant may wonder if I’m having a stroke.
*P.P.S. The St. Louis Zoo is ranked the 8th best zoo in the country and is free to enter! I strongly recommend seeing it if you are able.
I loved playing zoo as a kid too! Later playing Zoo Tycoon, the best part was when they escaped then too. My favorite detail is the name Hipplepuddlemuff, because who could not love that name.
Ladybug Update: First, thank you for all of the healing love and thoughts.
Several people suggested holistic or alternative care like PT, acupuncture or massage. Unfortunately such options are 100 miles away and just getting there would be entirely too stressful for her.
Not much change yet but at least she has an appetite, is taking her meds with little problem and finally had a poopage yesterday. Gotta’ take the small rewards and try to not think much beyond those!
Lupinium: Welcome, one an all to the annual Spring Tumbling Fair. This year I would like to welcome back my first tumbling class’s valedictorian, Ora Zed!
Ora Z: Thank you, one and all! It’s little O, Don’t you Know!
Lupinium: And now it gives me great pleasure to present Ora Z with a diploma scroll designed and illustrated by our own Royal Scribe, Elvis-Anum!
Ora Z: Thank you, it’s lovely.
Lupinium: Because you shredded your original diploma.
Ora Z: That’s true. But I think I’ll save this one for keepsies.
Lupinium: Excellent! And now let the tumbling begin!.
Hipplepuddlemuff, lol. Gotta love little ones’ words. When my oldest niece was little, she sort of swallowed the vowel in “Grandpa” — it was something like “Grrnpa.” But if you, the adult, tried to say this back to her, she’d look at you like you had two heads. It’s as if she was pronouncing it correctly in her mind; her mouth just hadn’t caught up yet.

Their imagination escapes. Such a delight, this family we spy on. And I love Lupin’s encouragement for Hipple to fly!

So, if one Lupin is worth five cats (and a tiny horse), how many zoo animals is that?

Hipplepuddlemuff sounds like where the sorting hat would place Lupin at Hogwarts!

Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes? Good thing they don’t have a heffalump. Heffalumps don’t like snakes.

It occurs to me – is this Goldie’s debut as Anchorcat as opposed to in-the-field?
I suppose I should, like Georgia did on BCN-TOS, tag the characters appearing in each strip.
