Our kids had no problem sleeping in Christmas morning. A couple of years we even woke THEM up because WE didn’t want to wait any longer.

A scene that makes a lot of trekking, shopping, wondering, wrapping, and hiding worth the effort.

Mom should take the picture herself. She has the camera and is more enthusiastic about the moment than Dad is. Dad would much prefer to have Mom, Calvin and Hobbes out on one of his camping trips.

I’d say that I remember my daughters getting up before dawn to open Christmas gifts, except I don’t have to remember: they’re 17 and 20, and they STILL get up before dawn on Christmas morning!

I remember those moments – from both perspectives. Ahhhh….good times, good times.

My Granny loved Christmas morning. She would be the one to wake up the kids with a sparkle in her eyes. To her this was the most magical time of year.

My Sister would wake us up at 3 am. I have vivid memories of us opening gifts in a living room lit only by a brightly coloured real Christmas tree.

One day of Peace on Earth for Calvin.

Use it wisely Calvin because the other 364.5 days of the year, you are fair game!

My parents had an ingenious solution. While most of the presents were piled under the tree, one of mine was always placed under my stocking. I could examine the contents of my stocking and open that one gift (always a toy or a book) to occupy me until they got up. Books worked especially well.

Notice that the certificate doesn’t say anything about wry comments.

This is why we celebrated Christmas Eve and then would go to midnight mass so we could sleep in…riiiiight…

I wonder if Calvin will save it for a safari?

(Rhetorical question. Yes, it seems I do have to literally “spell it out”.)

Sunrise on Dec. 24th, dear lord dad that’s 8am, no kid is going to wait that long…LOL

My mom could not WAIT for my and my three sisters to open our presents. She would wake us up early on Christmas. I still have Dad’s old movies of us rubbing our eyes and wondering what happened.

Note that Hobbes is his ‘stuffed animal’ self when parents are around.

My parents had a firm rule: it wasn’t Christmas Day until it was day. The sun had to be up.

Calvin never sleeps.

One year when Christmas was on a Saturday, I wanted to watch Saturday morning cartoons, but my mom said no. Then I opened up a gift and got a clock radio that picks up television sound, so I plugged it in and tuned to one of the stations playing cartoons.
