I have never yelled at a dog for having an accident. We just redirected him to where he should go and then praise praise praise him when he did it in the correct spot.
Yelling at a dog does absolutely nothing except make the dog fear you. I have fostered abused dogs so trust me on this one.
Yelling and anger in general I find personally to be a waste of energy, that accomplishes nothing.
Going through this right now with the youngest I nanny. Both his siblings were potty-trained by now, I’m fairly certain he can but just doesn’t want to. Except for when he is in the mood for a treat, of course.

Training pads work for puppies. Maybe they could try something similar for Doug.
