They’ll find it again; just listen for the bark and the squeak from the back yard.

Spouse has been watching a lot of the “TV Vet” shows lately: Loves the medical aspects. A lot of it gives me the squeams, including close up shots of what the vet pulls out of the GI tract of critters who swallow … things …

Though if they’re small enough, the problem generally passes with little trouble.

Anybody got the telephone number for the Humane Society? Earl’s tactic sounds inhumane.

Now the question arises, whose going to catch and how quickly will they release?

The good news: Muffin’s squeaky mouse toy will eventually be recovered.

The bad news: Muffin’s not going to want anything to do with it.

When my dog was a puppy we had to have a sponge type material surgically removed, I would have taken Roscoe to a vet!

We really trusted our dog and thought he never left our property when we let him out. We did live in the country after all, so what could go wrong? After a couple of large vet bills when he had eaten an old boot off a neighbors trash heap and a road kill deer, we invested in a fence for our yard. We did regularly feed him veterinary approved dog food, by the way.

It seems like the toy is actually not swallowed by looking at the picture, but only inside Roscoe’s mouth. They could have tried a little tug or opening his mouth to see if it could be retrieved. Of course, that would ruin the cartoon, so never mind.

I would have slowly pulled like I did as a boy holding one end of spaghetti while swallowing the rest. Yep this comic triggered that dormant 1950s memory.

Yeah, Earl; not funny. You have now given Roscoe a couple of very bad days before you incur a sizeable medical bill for the surgical removal of a non-digestible squeaky toy. Saw it with fair regularity when I worked for the vet. Only certain things digest. Squeaky toys, not so much.

We had a dog that swallowed a treble hook and it came out in his poop! We weren’t aware until it showed up on the other end with line intact! SO LUCKY it didn’t get caught along the way! Same dog we paid a fortune to have eye surgery on because he got a grass seed behind his eye. Great dog though!

If he doesn’t choke on it, it will still get stuck in his GI tract. Which means $1000’s in medical bills.

Divided feelings on this one! I understand the comedic intent but like many others, I envision it getting caught in his digestive tract and requiring a trip to the vet. Funny story – I rented a room from a friend and one day I got home and my dog’s abdomen was HUGE. I took him to the vet and they did xrays. The vet was having a hard time not laughing when he came to tell me that my dog was literally full of s***. It turned out he had gotten into a bag of rabbit food and eaten quite a bit which of course swelled up in his stomach. After a day or so he was back to his normal self. I still get a good laugh out of it.
