Man: We should pass a bill as a memorial to Kennedy's lifelong efforts to forge a consensus on this issue. Man: Without him it won't be possible. Tom: The legacy endures. The Tributes
Oh yeah, that’s the problem. If only I could spend 20% of my healthcare resources paying for an insurance company in New Hampshire instead of an insurance company in Massachusetts, then everything would be fine.
I know, let’s also allow people to buy insurance from other planets! That’ll super-fix things!
Wolfhound – That means Congress would have to make all Health Insurance companies non-profit since we in MN had the good sense to require such a thing. I guess maybe then only other non-profits could compete here.
My wife is English and spent the first 50 years of her life in GB. She had 4 children with the help of the NHS and she said it was excellent. She comes to the USA and gets turned down for health insurance, even though she is healthy enough to go out to the barn, get on a big John Deere and do any chore she wants to.
Wouldn’t it be great if a person could quit their job for a better one without having to worry about the health insurance factor? Wouldn’t it be great if an employer didn’t have to deal with the health insurance factor when hiring a new employee?? And if we had a really well thought out national health care plan, it would also solve workers comp problems as well. We have a “single payer military” and we all see how “deficit neutral” that has been lately. How does having people go bankrupt from health care bills serve anyone? Just because you have health insurance today means little if that health insurance will vanish if you lose your job. No, I will not bet even an acre of my farm that there are leaders in this country who have the courage to make the really hard decisions. When you see insurance CEO’s making 10 million a year, you pretty much know the answer. You don’t need a doctor to know which way the needle goes… .(sorry, Dylan).
wolfhoud, insurance companies are allowed to offer policies in every state of the union right now, as long as they abide by the regulations individual state’s have enacted. This GOP proposal is an attempt to usurp state rights and erase consumer protections laws enacted by states.
I like the toon, and i like irony in Tole’s comment in lower right corner.
I also remember that when the Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964, some called for its passage to be in honor of JFK, who was not able to pass it when he was alive.
“Consumer protection” actually translates to Government-Insurance racketeering. America is not the land of “consumer protection”, it is supposed to be the land of enterprise and a free market. I guess these simple truths should be thrown out the window, “for our own good”, of course. The state I’m in is running a RACKET, pure and simple, and any “protection” offered by the gov is a sham, because the gov is a sham.
