The governor of Florida in 1995 was a Democrat.

Mr. Butts’ basic premise, that lack of smoking would result in obesity, was flawed from the outset. Because now obesity is also considered a health crisis, yet people are STILL smoking. The two are able to co-exist quite effectively. :-|

It was a slim chance, but Mr. Butts took it!

Smoke or gain weight? C’mon, I’m pretty sure that people in Florida back in 1995 knew how to walk and chew nicotine gum at the same time.

I hate this series, as I hate cigarettes. I used to smoke pipes and cigars, but cigarettes smoke made me sick. I hate the smell it leaves in the house and clothing of the smoker. I ban smoking in my house or vehicle. I’m sorry we southerners ever got into growing that insidious weed called tobacco.

Lawton Chiles, the last Democrat elected Governor of Florida up to the present. He died in office. He did challenge the tobacco industry in court.

Actually, But head is sort of on to something. Smoking tanked and obesity took ascendance. People are complicated.

Companies selling “addiction” from cigarettes to television shows never factor in “shame”. What? You don’t think “binge watching” destroys families?
